Grow Faster!

About a month ago, I totally ran out of base coat. Gasp. I hit Shoppers to search for something new to try since honestly, the OPI one’s I have used aren’t anything special and the Sally Hansen ones, though they are amazing at first, get kind of gross and thick at the half way point. I spotted an Essie base coat that was on sale (I believe under $8) and decided to give it a try.

I want a base coat that prevents staining, strengthens my nails or at least prevents that awful nail-splitting thing and preferably is clear. This Essie Grow Faster base coat claims to protect and prevent breaking while giving your nail a smooth surface so into my little basket it went. One thing I noticed right away was the smooth application. I hope that that lasts throughout its lifetime and doesn’t get tacky like other strengthening polishes I have used. It also gives the nail a bit of shine so for the people that aren’t too into nail polish but want a clear, glossy finish, this could be for you.

Something I don’t necessarily need but I have noticed is that it doesn’t prevent my nail polish from chipping too well. I am not overly concerned, but for the sake of testing, I waited to see how long it would take before chipping. After about 3-4 days, it chipped pretty badly. My entire pinky nail came off (polish wise). I like to change up my polish pretty often so that doesn’t concern me.

From the few weeks I have used it, I would say my nails seem much stronger and they are growing at a pretty good rate. That might be because they aren’t breaking but either way, I am pretty happy with the result! Hopefully, this will be my new base coat solution. Let me know if you have a base or top coat you stand by. I would love to give it a try!

Til next time, ttfn x

  1. I agree with you on the Sally Hansen base coat. I had one but it just got so goopy and made my nails chip faster than if I hadn’t used it. Right now, I’m pretty surprised by the Essence gel base coat + top coat. I still get the nail splitting/peeling thing, but no chips for 4-5 days, and then only small chips after. No whole nails peeling off!
