Tomorrow is OFFICIALLY Autumn and as you may know, it is my favourite season. The colours, the fresh start, the leaves, no bees, but it’s only sweater weather. Have I mentioned how much I love sweaters? Anyway, with Fall also comes one of my favourite colours and that is plum. On the lips, cheeks or eyes, I am simply obsessed. I have picked out the best plums in my collection just in case you need some inspiration or convincing that you need this colour this season. It’s ah-may-zing.
(Same order as above)
My favourite way to wear plum is on the lips. Two of these made their way into last years Purple Lips for Fall post and rightfully so. Each of them has a bit of a different finish and tone to them. First, Lady and the Vamp from Wet n Wild in their Megaslick formula. This is a very sheer but buildable wash of dark plum with a glossy finish. It is a very purple plum shade so it is a little harder to wear, but when it’s sheer, it brings out some of the pinky reds in your lips. If you want to go really bold, it also looks amazing over a black lipstick, just saying.
For a bit more colour, there is the Maybelline Color Whisper in Berry Ready. I don’t find this as easy to build, but you do get more colour in your first swipe than you do with the WnW Megaslick lippie. It is also a lot more red-toned which I feel suites my pale skin a little bit better though they both suite their purpose. For a lot of glossy plum pigment, there is the Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in 005 Parisian. I know I will be wearing this consecutively between now and spring because it is the perfect vampy lip shade for me. I wont go on and on because I know this will be making its way into all of my selfies and make up looks this season so keep an eye out.
To give any of these lippies a bit more staying power and a bit more colour, I have the Annabelle Stay Sharp waterproof lip liner in the shade Berry. Like Lady and the Vamp, it is not as red-toned but more of a purple plum so it darkens up any of the colours I have already mentioned (and looks phenomenal). I have had such good luck with the Stay Sharp lip, eye and brow liners from Annabelle and I totally urge you to check them out if you can.
Now that you are set for lip products, I have a few cream cheek colours to try. First, there is Colourpop’s Super Shock Cheek in Pegacorn. It is not quite as scary on the cheek as it is in the pan and blends away to be a beautiful pink flush of colour. I always recommend using a duo fiber brush when working with a cream blush to give you the most natural finish. Between the two plums, I prefer the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in the shade Plum Wine. It is exactly what it claims to be: a plum wine combination that does show pretty true when applied on the cheek. I love the formula of these blushes because of how easy they are to use and blend.
For eyes, I went the high end route and grabbed out two palettes that I think will be perfect for Fall this year: the Tarte Rainforest After Dark and the Lorac Pro 2. Both of these have beautiful deep plum shades but each one is different. Though I have barely touched the Tarte palette as I bought it specifically with Autumn in mind, I have tested out these shades and am so in love. It is an all-in-one spread of deep, warm shadows plus a blush, highlight and bronzer that blend together beautifully. Plum Away With Me is the light pinky-plum in this palette and it has a beautiful gold shimmer throughout. In the Lorac palette, Plum is super matte and another dark purple plum. Both shades are beautiful and even go together quite well for a purple smokey eye.
Last but not least, I have a nail polish that I totally fell in love with but have heard nothing about. This is Get Cherried Away from the OPI Coca-Cola Collection. It’s bright but deep and so, so smooth. I feel like it totally breaks up all of the dark colours I know I will be wearing this fall. Two coats of this and you’re set with a beautiful pop of colour. Can we just all obsess over this?
All are sure to make their way into tutorials this season (in fact, one as soon as Friday…). Let me know what your favourite plums are for the fall and be sure to check out even more plum options here.
Til next time, ttfn x
