A while back now, Make Up For Ever introduced a new foundation line dedicated to giving you great but ‘invisable’ coverage and of course, I wanted to give it a try. I really love the products I have seen from Make Up For Ever in 2014-2015 whether it’s their Step 1 Primer or their Ink Liner or even their reformulated eye shadows. I love them all. This Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation is no different.
I received a deluxe sample from Sephora a while ago and was waiting for finish up a few things before busting it open. The time has come and at first, I didn’t see what the fuss was about. This colour luckily matched me quite well but I didn’t find it overly easy to apply, I didn’t think it was the best coverage, I wasn’t sure I liked the finish and I even thought it looked kind of dry.
These pictures were from that first time using it where I initially thought all of this but I dare you to find a dry patch. I don’t know what I had going on that morning but looking at the pictures now and having tried it a few more times (after initially being totally turned off of the product), I think it looks pretty good. I love that a little goes a long way, the soft looking finish and how much colour variety Make Up For Ever has in this line. It feels great on and mixed well with everything from the cream blush to concealer to powder.
I used the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer for this look and added some Maybelline Fit Me Concealer on my under eyes. For blush, I used my MUFE HD Blush sample in 410 – still trying to make a dent in that thing! I used the Temptu highlighter on my cheek bones and then started setting everything. For my under eyes, I used the Bare Minerals Well Rested concealer and for the rest of my face, I used the Make Up For Ever HD powder (there seems to be a theme here…)
I think my skin looked pretty even and matte but not dry like I initially thought. To finish the face, I took the Rimmel Brow This Way gel in Blonde to my brows, and added more highlighter to my cheeks using the Mary-Lou Manizer.
For my eyes, I used a newbie (to me) as well. First the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Metal in Inked in Pink which I have owned for a while but on top, I have a few shades from the Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette. I was a little bit underwhelmed by this raved about drugstore item. It was alright but not as exciting as I had hoped. I used the Annabelle Liquid Liner, Rimmel eye liner in nude and the disappointing Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara on top.
For my lips, I stayed nude and picked out the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Complex with this Marc Jacobs gloss that has no name! I have no idea what shade it is but it feels great on the lips. I am not really a fan of how the lips turned out and actually ended up getting rid of this balm shortly after these pictures were taken.
Overall, the foundation is great. It seems to be creeping into my day to day make up. It is expensive at $40+ but you get what you pay for with foundations it seems! Will I purchase it? I have a lot of foundation to go through before I even think about buying a new one but I will keep this in mind when that time comes.
Til next time, ttfn x
