#MOTD: Silver & Gold🎶

Most people would think of greens and reds when you’re talking about Christmas, but I wanted to do something a little different this year and draw inspiration from my favourite Christmas Tune: Silver and Gold. I am all kinds of nostalgic about that little tune.

But other than simply loving the song, I thought I would challenge myself to come up with different ways to incorporate the two shades. I’ve gotta say I’m pretty pleased with the result! Would I wear this to my family Christmas dinner? Probably not. That doesn’t make me love it any less.

For the products, I love that I was able to use so many favourites of mine while doing something different than I usually do. I was also able to use products I haven’t had the chance to wear yet like NYX Stone Fox which is so much better than I thought it would be! For anyone keeping track, I was able to do silver shadow and lips, and gold liner and highlight. My blush also has some gold sparkle to it of course. This look is also almost entirely drugstore products!

What I Got For Christmas 2015

Hey all! This year, I decided to do a little haul of what I got this year for Christmas! Please don’t take this as bragging – I just love hauls like this so I thought I would do one this year! This is not to brag but I was extremely spoiled and Roxanne is freaking amazing, just sayin’.

We only have about 3 gift exchanges in total and they are all with family. Firstly, Roxanne’s side did a Secret Santa kind of exchange & from my secret Santa, I received a beautiful tea set. This includes a lovely loose-leaf kettle, 4 varieties of tea and 4 jars to keep them in. I plan to use the jars in my beauty room and add the tea to my collection. Roxy’s mom also gave me a not-Christmas related gift but I thought I would include it in here anyway because it was so sweet of her! She knitted me a hat and scarf but not just any old hat and scarf. The hat has a little spot in the top for my ponytail/bun to poke through and I am obsessed with that! The scarf is also a beautiful knit (do not know what it is called) but it is nice and warm and of course, matches my hat!

We also had a gift exchange with my mom/dad and from them, I received some super exciting things! In the beauty area of things, I received the Bite Beauty Bite Discovery kit which was totally on my wish list and a $25 Sephora giftcard. I also received the Festive Friends gift box from Lush which smells incredible. Seriously, seriously incredible.

ott tv box
easy acc power bank

For some tech because mom and I are quite the techy loving ladies, I received a EasyAcc power bank but not just any power bank. It has 4 ports and a flashlight. It’s intense. She also gifted Roxanne and I a Android box for our TV since we don’t have cable! I am pretty excited at the possibilities.

canada mint tweety bird coin

Finally, on the more comfort side of Amy, they gave Roxanne and I a few board games: Monopoly and Battle Ship. I am a big lover of cards and board games (Roxanne not so much) so these were on my Christmas wish list for sure. Mom also gave us a beautiful warm winter throw blanket that I am always a sucker for. My dad very sweetly picked up the Canadian Mint $10 Tweety Bird coin. No, I am not a coin collector, but my parents used to always call me Tweety when I was little and it’s kind of a tradition that I get Tweety Bird memorabilia for Christmas. And what Christmas is complete without getting a pair of PJs. This year, I got my first onsie from Denver Hayes and I am in love. It is a polar bear but it reminds me so much of lambchop, it’s hilarious.

Typically, Roxanne and I don’t exchange gifts so I was so surprised when mid-December rolled around and gifts for me started popping up under our tree. I was freaking out because I hadn’t planned on doing a gift exchange and suddenly, I needed to round up some gifts. While I was sick. And ordering stuff online was not really an option. Luckily, I had a few ideas up my sleeve and some time when Roxy was working.

sephora glamglow gift sexy antiaging and ole henriksen glow
Roxanne killed it with the gifts. She really knows me so well and was able to pick out these things without much guidance from me. Starting with some skin care, she got the Ole Henriksen Cleanse and Glow on the go duo which I have had and enjoyed before. Secondly and very unexpectedly, I opened up the Glamglow Gift Sexy Anti-Age gift set which includes my favourite Supermud treatment from Glamglow as well as the Anti-Aging full sized Youth Mud and travel sized Youth Cleanse as well. There was also the softest brush I have ever felt which I always use to apply face masks.

cinema secrets make up brush cleaner
guerlain meteorites perles

Before moving onto make up, she also happened to pick up the Cinema Secrets brush cleaner which came with a tin to try! This was totally on my list since seeing Dani from Coffee Break with Dani talk about this about a month ago. She also received a delux sample when ordering of the Guerlain Météorites Perles primer and I was pretty floored. I had just seen In The Frow talk about this and was mesmerized so the fact that it was a deluxe sample was like mind-blowing to me.

marc jacobs oh miley and hourglass canvas liquid lip stick
She picked up two unexpected lipsticks for me to try. First of all, the Hourglass liquid lipstick in Canvas which has also totally been on my wishlist for some time and I just never got around to picking it up. It’s gorgeous and I really enjoy this Hourglass formula. I was also totally blown away when I opened Oh Miley from Marc Jacobs. I would never have in a million years guessed I would own this but it is totally stunning. Instant favourite.

make up for ever artist volume 2, too faced return of the sexy eye and smashbox double exposure
Finally, three eye shadow palettes that she picked up for me all of which totally blew me away: the Too Faced the Return of Sexy palette, the Smashbox Double Exposure palette and the Make Up For Ever Artist Palette Volume 2. I am pretty sure every time I opened one of these, I squealed. I haven’t owned palettes from any of these brands and I am so excited to try them out.

I hope you enjoyed this rather large haul. Obviously, I love everything I got but I was particularly excited to spend Christmas day together – no work, no rush, no interruptions. These few days were amazing to spend with family and enjoy some seriously delicious food which is why you may have noticed I wasn’t on social media so much this past week. I hope whoever you are, you had a very Merry Christmas or a happy holiday!

Try This Pin: Evergreen Nails

Hey all! It has been quite some time since I did a Pinterest post or even a nail art post so today, I am here with a festive combo! I was inspired by this pin as well as this pin which are both under my Nail Art board if you’re interested. All I used were my basics plus three.

sonia kashuk bewitched opi snow globetrotter love.angel.music.baby.
essie grow faster base coat essence nail art express dry drops

elf angled eyeliner brush
Base: Essie Grow Faster base coat

Quick Dry drops: Essence Nail Art Express Dry Drops

Nail polish: Sonia Kashuk nail polish in Bewitched, OPI Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and OPI Snow Globetrotter.

Tools: e.l.f. Angled Eyeliner Brush

Gems: Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art gemstone set

First step to any nail art is prep your nails. I cut, filed and washed my hands before applying my base coat and colour. I have been really into the evergreen + gold combo this season as you may or may not have seen in my festive #MOTD post. I always use my ring finger as an accent nail so that is where I applied my gold tree using my e.l.f. brush. I am obviously not an artist but I was pretty pleasantly surprised it worked out as well as it did.

evergreen nail art love angel music baby
I used my dry drops at this point because I didn’t want my tree to smudge but once the nails were dry, I applied the glitter top coat trying to ensure I only picked up the smaller glitters. I was going to leave it there but my tree was looking a little sad so I quickly popped a silvery gem on top of my tree and close to the base of each of my other nails.

I really loved these nails while they lasted. They were Christmas-y without being too intense and they got quite a few compliments (always lovely to hear). Let me know what you think!

Whatcha Think About the Best Bite Rewind set?

Hey all! I feel like I am late to the party on this Bite Beauty lippie set, but it just recently came back in stock at Sephora and I picked it up last week or so. Bite Beauty is a brand I haven’t 100% gotten into before but since finishing one of their lip glosses earlier this year, I have been really interested in giving their other products a try including these matte pencils.

In this Best Bite Rewind set is 4 fair sized matte lip pencils. You have

Cafe: a brown nude;

Torte: a dusty nude pink;

Corlis: a muted red and;

Aubergine: a reddish plum.

Of course, Bite Beauty is 100% eatable which I think is fantastic because you are inevitably going to consume some of your lip product. I love that you can twist these up instead of sharpening them as I don’t really love sharpening lip products specifically but they also are thin enough you can create pretty good lines with them. My one small issue with these is the packaging. The lids were pretty difficult to get off and on two of the four lipsticks, when I did get the lid off, it skimmed the lipstick and wasted product/was messy.

bite beauty cafe torte corlis aubergine swatches
Top L to bottom R: Care, Torte, Corlis, Aubergine

I love how these feel but I don’t think the finish is truly matte. They feel so creamy on and have a bit more of a satin look. That being said, I love a amplified or satin finish and they look beautiful. They do have a ‘fruity’ smell that I didn’t think I liked but something about it is kind of warm and relaxing. I might just be weird! With their formula being so lovely and creamy, the colours don’t last overly long so I think I will fly through them fast.

Overall, I do like these and have the Bite Beauty Discovery kit on my Christmas wish list this year! What do you think of the Bite Beauty Best Bite Rewind? Do you have it? Will you pick it up?

Whatcha Think About the Formula X Delete polish remover?

Hey all. I feel like I haven’t been showin’ any love to my nail polish/ nail polish related things lately and I have been holding onto this post for some time. In fact, this product has already come and gone from my collection of things. I am talking about the Formula X Delete Nail Polish Remover.

I actually didn’t plan on reviewing this even after taking some pictures because I was under the impression is was discontinued. I think what actually happened was it wasn’t showing up on Sephora’s Canadian website for a while and I am totally the type of person that’s like “It’s not exactly where I saw it last time, so it’s lost forever.” I discovered it was still in store to my disbelief and now, like magic, it has reappeared on Sephora.com

So, after that long winded introduction, what do I actually think of the thing? Well, I received this for Christmas 2014 and was thrilled to have a nail polish remover with a pump! It’s the little things guys. This product, however, when used with the flat cotton pads, is extremely annoying because the force of the pump actually shoots product through the pad and onto anything near by – your bed, the desk, your eye, anything. This is totally preventable by putting your fingers over top or using a thicker bit of cotton but it still was a bit surprising if I forgot or someone else used it. Along that same line, if you forget to lock it when putting on the lid, the nail polish remover gets everywhere.

Now the product. I actually wanted to test this against some of the tougher products so I have a nail wrap which is multicoloured with some glitter. I have used it with everything from reds to crimes to glitters and had the same or very similar result. For is text though, I thought the nail wrap kind of spoke for the power of this formula.

The Formula X Delete nail polish remover is just like any other for application. One to two pumps to soak the pad, press on the nail for ultimate exposure, and then slide off. After three slides, this some what glittery nail wrap was completely gone and I would say that’s impressive. I usually have to do some extra maneuvering to get everything but this wasn’t the case here.

One of the other perks is the lack of harsh nail polish remover smell. It does have a scent but it really isn’t nearly as bad as the typical no name nail polish remover I feel like most people use.

And now for the cons. To me, there are a few cons with this and the biggest one would be how sticky it is. It’s not so bad if you give your hands a bit of a moisture barrier before and after use. I’m not sure if it is the nail polish but it did happen every time I used it and made quite the mess. The next issue I have is the price. I can’t see myself spending $13 on a not so perfect nail polish remover especially of this size (150mL/5.4 Oz).

The verdict? I will not be picking this up. It was great while it lasted but I will be sticking to the big, stinky bottle of no name nail polish remover that doesn’t cost more than $5.

Classic Holiday Red

Hey all! Let me ask you this: What is more classic than a red lip? Nothing that’s what. I tend to shy away from red lipsticks through most of the year, but during the Christmas season, I think it is the most tuning thing you can wear. I have quite a number of red lippies from sheer to stain, drugstore to YSL. Here are my absolute faves:

Tarte Sangria from the Tarte Amazonian Butter lipstick set.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Cherry.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 01.

Bite Beauty Bite for VIB Rouge.

Hourglass Liquid Lipstick in Icon.

J Cat Beauty Big Lip Pencil in Red Rose.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Lip Balm in Standout.

Each of these is totally different whether it’s the finish, shade, opacity or even price! All of these do transfer with the exception of the Hourglass Liquid Lipstick & they all are ridiculously beautiful! What is your favourite holiday red?

#MOTD: Frosty ft Annabelle Cosmetics

The holidays mean so much to so many people and as silly as this may sound, the biggest deal for me is getting ready to see people I haven’t seen for a year (or more, eeep). If you’re a cosmetic junkie like I am, you will be painted up the best you have been all year with sparkles and jewls and sequins and bold colours. For Christmas, I am usually a blue and silver girl. It just screams winter glamour. Don’t get me wrong – reds and golds are beautiful too (as you may have seen in my Christmas Nail picks), but there is something so glitzy to me about the silver and blue combo. Anyways, I decided to put together a really easy but bold make up look for the holidays or New Years! While I was at it, I thought it may be the perfect opportunity to try out a new mascara which I have been holding onto for a few weeks now: the Annabelle Big Show Waterproof Mascara**. Family events and gift giving can get emotional so I always recommend some waterproof mascara.

First up, a bit of a hydrating spray of the Avene Thermal Spring Water which I received from ipsy to moisturize and make my makeup go on a bit smoother. I will most definitely be buying this stuff the second it runs out (or sooner). It feels fantasticly hydrating, and as far as I am concerned, it is multiuse. I use it when I need a bit of a burst of hydration, to set my makeup, wake up my fiancé… Whatever I need it for. Paired with this, I put on a Mattifying primer from Cover FX. This stuff is not my favourite, but I am trying to go through some of my primers as I mentioned in my last Empties post. I have a Murad one waiting for me once I am through with 2 others I have open…

For foundation, I pulled out a newer discovery of mine: the True Match foundation from L’Oreal in W2 Light Ivory. So far, I have liked the coverage, the colour is really close, and it feels pretty good on, but I can’t say it is my favourite yet. I think it may be just about time to pull out yet another foundation to try. Leave any recommendations below! Next up, I took my little sample of Benefit’s Fake Up Concealer that I received from Sephora a while back. The colour looks completely wrong for me but when blended, I think it matches pretty well. This is the lightest shade you get unfortunately, but the consistency is creamy and has a pretty good coverage to it.

When doing a bolder eye, I change up my make up routine a bit and do the eyes before finishing my face. This way, if I make any mistakes with mascara or if there is fallout, or whatever the case, it isn’t such a hassle to clean up. For these eyes, I used Annabelle Smudge Liner in Armour and drew a dramatic V on the outer area of my eye. This liner is so smooth and creamy that it works amazingly well as a base. In fact, I end up doing that with my eye liner a lot because otherwise, I would never go through pencil liners. I have never been too great with doing pencil liner, but these are so simple because they smudge to fit wherever you need which is especially handy for tightlining. To fill in the remainder of the lid, I took Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal eyeliner in Silver which is super bright silver. Again, very creamy and blendable. Using a dense crease brush from Real Techniques, I then blended them out to fill in any gaps before putting on some eye shadow.

This has to be one of the most amazing palettes I have ever seen with a price tag that is equally as impressive. BH Cosmetics Galaxy Palette may look a bit intimidating but the colours, the sparkle, the size and payoff is amazing. The best part? It is currently only $11.95 for 18 baked eyeshadows. I first took the colour Earth and patted it onto the Rimmel liner on my lid, leaving a silver line close to my lashes clear. To deepen the Annabelle liner, I took my favourite blending brush by Mirabella and blended out the edge using Eclipse. Don’t they work together flawlessly? This taupe-grey is making its way to be my most beloved colour of the month, let me tell ya.

Now, to finish off the face, I added some Rimmel Match Perfection 2 in 1 Concealer and Highlighter under my eyes and set my face with Rimmels Stay Matte translucent powder. This combination gives my skin a beautifully matte but bright finish. Excuse the condition of my Stay Matte powder, it has obviously been through some things…

To define the eyes, I used the Annabelle Smudge Liner underneath my eyes about half way and took a Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liner in Black Velvet along my upper waterline and just above my lashes. I find if I don’t do both and smudge it a bit, the effect really doesn’t turn out well. The black liner doesn’t have to be very thick as next, I took the Marcelle double ended liquid liner and made a bit of a wing.

To finish the eye, the Annabelle Big Show Waterproof Mascara**. Here is a recap: it lengthens, it is a very intense matte black and it is absolutely waterproof. As you can see, it works very well even on my bottom lashes which always tend to be my challenge. A tip to remove it: I used the Annabelle (yes, again) Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover pads**. They are a bit oily for me but do they ever work at taking mascara and liner off without any eye pain.

With the eyes done, I finished up my brows with my forever loved Annabelle Brow Liner in Universal Medium, threw on a bit of Mac Mocha blush and a cool-toned highlighter by Temptu and the piece de resistance, a knockout lip. This is a combination of the J Cat Wonder Lip Paint in Love Potion which I received through Ipsy on top of the Maybelline Color Whispers in Berry Ready. This stuff stays put, let me tell you. It does not move when you eat even which makes it a perfect Christmas lip.

I hope you enjoyed my little make up tutorial 🙂 Many more to come in 2015! Merry Christmas!
