#MOTD: Something Old, Something New

And no, this isn’t another wedding post.

Inspired by Beauty With Emily Fox on YouTube, I took a look through my old favourites from the past few years that I have been blogging and put them to the test to see what I still liked and what was just a phase. Where does the ‘something new’ come in? I had to fill in the gaps with some of my current favourites from my collection. Enjoy!

Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer Original (January 2016)

This primer is still as lovely as ever. I wouldn’t say it is my number 1 primer as I do find that my skin can look a little dry and my pores are still a little bit visible, but I have kept it because I love how it feels on the skin.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation in 110 Porcelain (January 2016)

My favourite thing about this foundation is the colour match. Other than that, I wouldn’t say this is gives me either a matte or poreless finish and it doesn’t feel great on my skin. I no longer support the company as it isn’t cruelty-free but regardless, I am not in love with this product anymore.

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer (February/March 2015 and again in October 2015)

For inexpensive and full coverage, I don’t think you can beat this. It does separate a little and the packaging isn’t ideal, but I do like how this looks under the eyes.

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Glow (August 2015)

This was my wedding day blush so you know it is still my number 1. I love how this blush gives life to my skin with a bit of a glow without the oil slick. I prefer cream blushes and find that this one is one of the more pigmented with fantastic staying power.

elf HD Undereye Setting Powder and Tone Correcting Powder (CURRENT)

I am blown away that I haven’t raved about these two inexpensive, cruelty-free powders. I rarely will use anything else. They both set my make up well without oxidizing or drying out my skin. They are easy to use and apply, and keep my oily skin under control. I do need to touch up through the day (I use blotting papers to do so) but these look and feel so good.

Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighter (July 2015)

That glow though. I still love this highlighter. It has a gorgeous, healthy shine to it while being a good balance of natural and glamourous.

Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner in Universal Medium (pictured is Universal Taupe – January 2016)

This is my go-to and it is drugstore. I am constantly using these up and repurchasing them. If there is one item you try from this post, it should be this.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance (February/March 2015)

This is another product that I use every day and have multiple backups of. It is my favourite eye primer because of how smooth it feels on the lids and how beautifully pigment sticks to it.

March Jacobs Twinkle Pop in Honey Bunny (February/March 2015 and again in December 2015)

This isn’t quite an every day product for me, but when I need a pop of glossy, glittery shine, this is the only thing I reach for. I set this with a few shades in the ABH MR palette (next) here but the cream shadow still shines through. It is simply gorgeous.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette (Fall 2016)

Who doesn’t love this palette? It has so many warm tones, a good variety of colour and neutrals, and the formula is simply one of the best.

Annabelle Stay Sharp Metallic eyeliner in Bronzy (September 2015)

This entire range of Stay Sharp products from Annabelle are 100% worth checking out. I have loved everything I have tried. This particular shade is my favourite because it works so well with my eye colour, but they all stay put and are easy to apply.

Marcelle Double Precision Liquid Liner (CURRENT)

I forgot how much I am in love with this matte, drugstore liner. It is easy to apply and pigmented. I don’t know how I haven’t mentioned this one before either because it has been a favourite since highschool.

Buxom Lash Mascara (CURRENT)

This is a super dark, lengthening mascara that doesn’t disappoint. If you are not a fan of the Too Faced BTS mascara because it is clumpy, here is your not-so-clumpy dupe (to clarify, I do love them both).

Bite High Pigment Pencil in Madeira (May 2015)

This shade isn’t available but I am sure Bite has a similar shade in their permanent collection. Bite specializes in lip products so of course, they are amazing. The one and only issue I have is the wear time but honestly, they feel so lovely to apply that I don’t mind.

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Lip Gloss in D16 (January 2015)

This lip gloss line is no longer available but luckily, I have found a new favourite that is pretty similar and there is no surprise, it is from Bite. The Bite Lush Fruit Lip Gloss line is the same thick and glossy shine that lasts which is what I loved about the MUFE gloss.

I hope you enjoyed this blast from the past – I know I did! Let me know which ones you’ve tried.

#MOTD: Brozed beauty for pale skin

It’s summer and that means it’s time for even the palest of people to look a little more bronzed up. I am and never have been a big bronzer user but my opinion has totally changed with the addition of a few new products that are perfect for this season. Here is my bronzed up look for all of the pale people out there!

Foundation: I skipped out on a primer to get the full benefits and natural look of the Murad Oil Control Mattifier with SPF 15 plus the Derma E BB Creme with SPF 20 in light. This combination is you skin but better plus things out the BB cream which is slightly too dark on its own.

Concealer: I used the Essence Say No to Dark Circles concealer under my eyes. Yes, I have extremely dry skin under one of my eyes. It is annoying. Let’s ignore it.

Eye primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Powder: Elf Tone Correcting Powder in Cool to do a little bit of colour correcting since this BB cream is a touch dark for me still.

Bronzer: The star of the show is this Physicians Formula #Instaready Super BB Bronzer. Both super natural and just overly stunning.

Highlight: Wet n Wild Fergie Highlight in Hollywood Boulevard.

Blush: Summer means cream blush and I took a page from Nancy (aka Spiffykerms) book and used NYX Cream Blush in Glow.

Eyeshadow: I used the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Eye shadow palette. Starting with the taupe browbone shade in my crease then deepening it us with the gorgeous brown crease shade on the left. On my eye lid, I wanted something a little bronze so I went with the eyelid shade.

Eye liner: I used a thin layer of the Annabelle Stay Sharp eye liner in Bronzey in my waterline with some of my eyelid shade on top.

Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex.

Brows: For my brows, I used the Annabelle Browshow liner and highlighter on my brows and brow bone.

Lipstick: A combination of the Annabelle Stay Sharp lip liner in Java and the Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in Get The Look for that extra boost of colour.

This look is rather simple considering how luminous and perfected I felt! All of these products were totally pale-skin friendly and animal friendly (cruelty-free). I hope you enjoyed this look! Let me know what I should do next.

Even More Trash: Winter 2016

I’m here with Part 2: the make up, nail and hair portion of this Winters trash! If you’re interested in what skin and body care I used up, head over here.

For make up this season, I did a bit of a cleanse and got rid of a few things where not worth the hassle to make it work. I also managed to finish a couple of things. Out of all of this makeup, the only product I plan to repurchase is the Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner in Universal Medium. This is my go to brow product that ends up in ever single empties post. I totally love it and now have it in Universal Light to try out! The products I am tossing are the Benefit Watts Up, Bite Beauty Violet lipstick and MAC Mocha blush. These are all products I could use and muddle around with but it’s more trouble than it’s worth. I have a second Watts Up, the blush doesn’t look or feel right and though I like Bite lipsticks, I don’t have the patience to pull out a lip brush and use the product that’s stuck in the lid or tube.

If you follow my #Finish5 series, you know I’m not a fan of the Benefit Gimmie Brow mainly because I need something with more umph (like the Rimmel Brow This Way). For that reason, this is my first and last tube though I may give the Essense dupe a try. For the elf liner in Brown, it was quite dark and easy to use. Though that’s my favourite kind of applicator, I also really enjoyed the Jesse’s Girl black liner. The reason I don’t plan to repurchase at this point is that the brands are readily available where I am and I have enough liner to last me for months (maybe years). The one product I would repurchase (if only it were a CF brand) would be the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation. This was serious perfection.

You might have seen that I recently decluttered to clean out some of my nail polish but I passed on about 99% of the product that I decluttered from my collection. Here are a few that I did use up. First, a staple in my nail world, the Quo Nail Polish Remover. I pick these up for about $3 (2 for $6) at Shoppers and run through them pretty quick. Also pictured is the Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat which I did like but like many other polishes, it became quite gloopy near the end. The final two here are nail wraps: one from Essie and one from Sally Hansen. Since these company’s are not cf, I will not be picking any more up.

I went through quite a few hair products this season including some amazing Dry Shampoo from COLAB. This is the COLAB Sheer Invisable shampoo in Rio (my favourite scent) and the COLAB Extreme Volume shampoo in Toykio. Dry shampoo and I are taking a break but this is a brand I will be pretty faithful to. The two foil packets in the front are the Drybar Sake Bomb nourishing shampoo and conditioner combo. I may be one of the few people that find “better quality” shampoos are just way too rich for my hair. It becomes so greasy and stringy within a day – sometimes, it doesn’t look like I have washed my hair at all after it dries. For that reason, these just didn’t work for me. I actually typically stay away from typical conditioners except for the Ion Anti-Frizz leave in conditioner here. I have had this for years. I love how it smells and feels. I have a few conditioning products to go through but hope to come back to this soon.

You may have seen my review of the uhaircare Native Mint shampoo and though I like it, I am not too likely to purchase it in the future. If I do happen upon it at Winners again through, I may scoop it up then. The final empty I have here is the KQC Thermal Shine heat protector shine spray. I love this stuff and already have another on the go. It makes my hair feel so healthy and soft without making it feel like there is additional product or anything greasy. I use it even on days I don’t use heat because it just feels so nice. It is available on nailpolishcanada.com for under $15.

We’ve come to an end! I realize it is just about time for a spring empties post (stay tuned! I promise, it won’t be quite so long) but I hope you enjoyed this review.

My first ever Make Up Geek haul ft. Sephora, Nail Polish Canada

This may or may no surprise you but I have never made an order for Make Up Geek products before. It’s a little crazy how quickly MUG blew up but I never did get swept into all the hype. I’ve heard so many good things but most commonly that they are very similar to MAC at half the price. I planned on checking them out sooner or later and finally, I found the deal I had been waiting for.

Top L to R: In The Spotlight, Bedrock, Masqurade. Middle L to R: Shimma Shimma, Mermaid, Peach Smoothie. Bottom L to R: Mai Tai, Poppy, Phantom.
I had a good idea of what I wanted but hadn’t taken the plunge until I saw a beautiful-fantastic-amazing sale: 9 shadows for $30. Here is a similar deal but this exact set is no longer available (the individual shades are). The best part about this deal was that 5/9 shadows were ones I was eyeing up.

In The Spotlight: I hadn’t heard about this shade before but it might just be my favourite of the bunch. It is a wildly intense rust/gold duo-chrome.

Bedrock (wanted): I don’t know exactly what drew me into this matte taupe-grey but I am glad to have one in my z palette!

Masqurade: I hadn’t heard about this shade either but all you had to say was purple foiled eye shadow. Sold!

Shimma Shimma: I had heard endlessly about this shadow and now I totally understand why. It’s a GORGEOUS champagne sparkle that stands out.

Mermaid (wanted): I am not a frequent blue-eyeshadow girl, this is so unique and stunning. It is an amazing aqua gold pigment.

Peach Smoothie (wanted): Has anyone not heard of peach smoothie? I wanted to try this orangey peach shade and see what all the hype is about.

Mai Tai: This is really subtle baby pink/peach shadow that is freaking gorgeous.

Poppy (wanted): Who could resist a rorange like that?

Phantom (Wanted): This shadow is rightfully named. This goes from a soft lilac to a vibrant frost depending which way you’re looking at it. A very stand out shade.

Top: Voltage. Bottom: Dirty Martini.
Then of course, while I was at it, I wanted to pick up a few singles that caught my eye.

Dirty Martini: I can honestly say I don’t have anything this colour in my collection. When this khaki/olive shade started trending in the fall, I fell deeply in love with it. I have a lot of plans for this beauty.

Voltage: This is a very interesting white/yellow duo-chrome that I am excited to play around with.

Top L to R: Voltage, Mermaid, Shimma Shimma, Dirty Martini, Peach Smoothie, Poppy, Bedrock. Middle L to R: Mai Tai, Phantom. Bottom L to R: In The Spotlight, Masqurade.

From Nail Polish Canada, I had to pick up an essential: the Lippy Girl Lip Love Lip Conditioning stick. Roxanne and I are hooked on this and it lasted us forever. Vegan, cruelty free, amazing quality. To bump me up to free shipping, I also picked up the elf blush brush for blush and the Real Techniques Setting brush for highlighting.

Unfortunately, I also picked up the LA Girl Pro Conceal in the wrong shade (Light Ivory is the second lightest shade and it is WAY too dark for me – oops!). In my next order, I will pick up Porcelain and see how that goes.

Is any haul complete without some Sephora goodies? Somehow, I was able to convince myself that I needed even more eye shadow so I picked up the ABH Artist Palette. I am in love with their eye shadow formula like you wouldn’t believe so it really was a no brainer.

While I was at it and I had 15% off (Thank you VIB Rouge status), I also picked up one of the few available Too Faced Melted Matte lipstick in Drop Dead Red. I shockingly have no lip products this colour so I didn’t feel too guilty picking it up plus I get to try out their newest creation. So far, I haven’t worn it out but the colour is just as perfect as I imagined. I originally went online looking for the Urban Decay Corrector Fluid in Green that I was drooling over in store the previous week. It seems to be like a liquid concealer but it dries down to a beautiful matte that you don’t really have to mess around with. It’s kind of perfect.

I hope you enjoyed this mid-spring haul. I know I certainly did! All products mentioned are cruelty-free (as far as I am aware). Have you tried any of these products? What do you think?

#Finish5 for April 2016

Hey all! It has been a minute since I did a #Finish5 post and I am kind of unsure whether to keep ‘er going but today, I was feeling a little inspired to talk about the 5 products I had been using in February/March and pick out 5 new products for April.

If you’re not following me on Twitter or Snapchat where I have been complaining about it, my eyes are leaking. They just frequently water and I haven’t been able to figure out why. It’s been about a month now that I haven’t worn eye make up (and when I have, it’s been a mess). It isn’t an eye infection so I do still feel safe wearing make up on occasion, but it can be a little frustrating.

The reason I feel the need to explain this is that I pretty much have only been wearing brows since they wont be messed up by the river flowing out of my eyes. Because of that, I was able to finish up one of the two Annabelle Skinny Brow pencils in Medium Brown and the Benefit Gimmie Brow in Light/Medium. I have a lot of brow products so I am stoked to get through a few so that I can finish up others. I will always love the Annabelle Skinny Brow and have been through several before. I have picked up the Universal Light shade to try (as you might have seen in my most recent haul…) and I will report back! As for the Gimmie Brow… I don’t really see the hype. It was okay but I am not in need of a gel or length in my brows.I like the brush but otherwise, I wont be picking it up again.

I did not finish the other 3 of my finish 5 products simply because barely used any face products. The Rimmel London Match Perfection Concealer and Temptu highlight I barely used for sure, and then the Balm Plump your Pucker lip gloss I did infrequently use but simply not enough to finish the tube.

Because I am not sure whether my eyes will behave for the coming month (so far, so good), I have picked a few skin care bits to use up. Firstly, a serum that I quite like: the Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum which is running low as it is but I wanted a little bit of variety in skin care. With this, I also have the elf eye refresh because my under eyes need some major TLC.

What is skin care without masks? I have three Real Nature sheet masks from THE FACE SHOP that I am counting as one since they are single use masks. Review coming soon. Keeping with the theme, I also hope to used up this Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask. Finally, just to throw in some make up, I have this nameless Marc Jacobs lip gloss that is running on empty.

That’s all folks. Let me know whether you’re interested in these type of posts! It is motivating to me to finish up some product but I don’t know how much other people care about them.

#Finish5 for December 2015

Hey all! It’s time to chat about the 5 products I aimed to finish this past month. Every month, I challenge myself to get through 5 products over the following 28-31 days and see how it goes. If I’m honest, most months, I am unsuccessful but I still like to do it to motivate me to use some products that need to be cleared out. That being said, I feel pretty good about December because I managed to finish two products.

finish 5 december
Finally, I have finished up the Boots or No 7 Beautiful Skin Overnight Revitalising eye balm. I have had this for a while now and I wanted to move on to a new eye cream. This was alright but it didn’t target any of my under eye problem areas, namely, darkness. It was supposed to help dry and puffy under eyes and I don’t have a problem with that typically. Because of that, I wont be picking this up again but it was a nice product while I had it.

I also finished the e.l.f. brown eye liner. This does still have product technically but it has become chunky so I am tossing this sucker. I liked this a lot as a dark brown liner for days I wasn’t feeling black. It was very easy to apply and looks lovely through the day. It is also easy to remove and I may pick another up but for now, I don’t really need another liquid brown eye liner.

no 7 overnight revitalising eye balm elf brown liquid eye liner
The remaining three products I have left are the Benefit Gimmie Brow in Light/Medium, the Temptu highlighter and the Rimmel Match Perfection 2 in 1 Highlighter and concealer in 125 fair. I do feel like I am very close to finishing the Benefit Gimmie Brow but how many months have I said that? It is starting to dispense less and less product onto my brows so I will be trying to use this up through January. I am not sure whether I will pick this up again or not. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this thing.

During December, I don’t think I touched the Temptu highlighter in Pink Pearl even once because I find it doesn’t mix very well with my favourite Benefit foundation. However, in the early days of January, I have tried applying it with my fingers and find it works much better. Hopefully, I will finish this up this month as well. I have very little left in here so we shall see!

The Rimmel Match Perfection concealer I use frequently under my eyes but it takes a lot to go through a concealer! I really doubt I will finish this over even the next month or two but I will certainly try. It is a lovely concealer option but I do find you have to set it to make it stay put.

For January, I will be adding two new products to my #Finish5 rotation: the Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner in Universal Medium and the Balm Plump your Pucker lip gloss. I need to get through some lip and brow products as I am a bit overstocked and I already know I love the Annabelle brow pencil to death. I want to give the Universal Light shade a try sometime but I am going to wait until I am down a few brow pencils first.

I have had the Balm Plump your Pucker lip gloss for an embarrassingly long time and I am over half way through it now. Hopefully, in the next couple months, I will see this dwindle away so I can make room for even more lip products… I mean…

My January line up is the Benefit Gimmie brow, the Temptu Hightlighter in Pink Pearl, the Balm Plump your Pucker lip gloss, the Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer and the Annabelle Skinny Brow pencil.Wish me luck!

Try This Pin: Evergreen Nails

Hey all! It has been quite some time since I did a Pinterest post or even a nail art post so today, I am here with a festive combo! I was inspired by this pin as well as this pin which are both under my Nail Art board if you’re interested. All I used were my basics plus three.

sonia kashuk bewitched opi snow globetrotter love.angel.music.baby.
essie grow faster base coat essence nail art express dry drops

elf angled eyeliner brush
Base: Essie Grow Faster base coat

Quick Dry drops: Essence Nail Art Express Dry Drops

Nail polish: Sonia Kashuk nail polish in Bewitched, OPI Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and OPI Snow Globetrotter.

Tools: e.l.f. Angled Eyeliner Brush

Gems: Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art gemstone set

First step to any nail art is prep your nails. I cut, filed and washed my hands before applying my base coat and colour. I have been really into the evergreen + gold combo this season as you may or may not have seen in my festive #MOTD post. I always use my ring finger as an accent nail so that is where I applied my gold tree using my e.l.f. brush. I am obviously not an artist but I was pretty pleasantly surprised it worked out as well as it did.

evergreen nail art love angel music baby
I used my dry drops at this point because I didn’t want my tree to smudge but once the nails were dry, I applied the glitter top coat trying to ensure I only picked up the smaller glitters. I was going to leave it there but my tree was looking a little sad so I quickly popped a silvery gem on top of my tree and close to the base of each of my other nails.

I really loved these nails while they lasted. They were Christmas-y without being too intense and they got quite a few compliments (always lovely to hear). Let me know what you think!
