Spring Flings 2017

Yes, I am super late to the game on this one (as it is now officially summer) but I thought it was worth sharing anyway. Things have been busy over here between helping with my cousin’s wedding, big changes at work, and enjoying the beautiful weather. That being said, this Spring seems to have really made me fall back in love with make up, nails, and blogging, so I have a few of my absolute favourites to talk about today.

Spring-fling-All

NYX Liquid Suede in Stone Fox
I have been having a hard time getting out of the winter dark lipstick trend, have you? I have mainly been reaching for cool toned shades whether it is a deep purple hue or this gorgeous grey from NYX. These do transfer, which is the only bummer, but the formula is comfortable and is still flattering as it wears away. I find this easy to apply and reapply on-the-go despite it being a darker shade. All in all, this unique shade is amazing and I recommend it if you ‘re into funkier lipsticks.

Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Palette
I have been going pretty light and neutral on the eyes lately and so this is my go-to palette hands down. These Kat Von D shadows are pigmented, blendable and powdery which is exactly what I look for in an eye shadow. Though these are natural, neutral nudes, there is still a heap of variety in this palette which makes it fun and inspiring. Even when I am feeling like a pop of colour, I can use this palette as a base before going for one of my colourful palettes or single shadows. It pretty much goes with anything.

Spring-fling-1

Beyond the Nail Polish in Supernova with Starrily Menchie the Cat Nail Polish
I am currently all about holographic nails and so this combination gives me so much life. The pink hues work well together and depending on the lighting, you have a lovely rainbow glow that lasts. Both polishes easy to apply with a smooth formula and are cruelty-free so I recommend trying them out if you haven’t already.

Nars Radient Creamy Concealer in Vanilla
I don’t think I need to go on about this concealer as I have before just like so many others. This concealer just makes your undereye area look smooth and bright while being comfortable and (relatively) creaseless. Although this has definitely been in favourites before, I thought I would mention a little hack that I had learned that is quick and easy to get more from your product. I recommend only doing this when you’re running low on concealer, but when the time comes, remove the little device that removes excess product from your brush. It can easily be removed with tweezers and allows you to dig for more product along the sides.

The Honest Company Deodorant in Bergamot Sage
My new favourite deodorant: the Spray On deodorant. If you haven’t tried a spray deodorant, I recommend it. This one from The Honest Company in particular lasts all day without the feeling of product on your pits. It is lightweight with a bit of an earthy scent (as it is bergamot sage) and it lasts for quite a while. It is natural and cruelty free without the use of coconut oil (which breaks me out and is also in many natural stick deodorants).

ecotools muslin Polishing Cloths
Special mention, though it isn’t pictured here, are the Ecotools Muslin Polishing cloths. These are the gentlest way I have found to wash my face. I plan write an entire post about the various ways I use these to save time, money and being less wasteful (so stay tuned) but they are all I plan to use from now on to clean my skin.

#MOTD: Something Old, Something New

And no, this isn’t another wedding post.

Inspired by Beauty With Emily Fox on YouTube, I took a look through my old favourites from the past few years that I have been blogging and put them to the test to see what I still liked and what was just a phase. Where does the ‘something new’ come in? I had to fill in the gaps with some of my current favourites from my collection. Enjoy!

Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer Original (January 2016)

This primer is still as lovely as ever. I wouldn’t say it is my number 1 primer as I do find that my skin can look a little dry and my pores are still a little bit visible, but I have kept it because I love how it feels on the skin.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation in 110 Porcelain (January 2016)

My favourite thing about this foundation is the colour match. Other than that, I wouldn’t say this is gives me either a matte or poreless finish and it doesn’t feel great on my skin. I no longer support the company as it isn’t cruelty-free but regardless, I am not in love with this product anymore.

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer (February/March 2015 and again in October 2015)

For inexpensive and full coverage, I don’t think you can beat this. It does separate a little and the packaging isn’t ideal, but I do like how this looks under the eyes.

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Glow (August 2015)

This was my wedding day blush so you know it is still my number 1. I love how this blush gives life to my skin with a bit of a glow without the oil slick. I prefer cream blushes and find that this one is one of the more pigmented with fantastic staying power.

elf HD Undereye Setting Powder and Tone Correcting Powder (CURRENT)

I am blown away that I haven’t raved about these two inexpensive, cruelty-free powders. I rarely will use anything else. They both set my make up well without oxidizing or drying out my skin. They are easy to use and apply, and keep my oily skin under control. I do need to touch up through the day (I use blotting papers to do so) but these look and feel so good.

Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighter (July 2015)

That glow though. I still love this highlighter. It has a gorgeous, healthy shine to it while being a good balance of natural and glamourous.

Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner in Universal Medium (pictured is Universal Taupe – January 2016)

This is my go-to and it is drugstore. I am constantly using these up and repurchasing them. If there is one item you try from this post, it should be this.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance (February/March 2015)

This is another product that I use every day and have multiple backups of. It is my favourite eye primer because of how smooth it feels on the lids and how beautifully pigment sticks to it.

March Jacobs Twinkle Pop in Honey Bunny (February/March 2015 and again in December 2015)

This isn’t quite an every day product for me, but when I need a pop of glossy, glittery shine, this is the only thing I reach for. I set this with a few shades in the ABH MR palette (next) here but the cream shadow still shines through. It is simply gorgeous.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette (Fall 2016)

Who doesn’t love this palette? It has so many warm tones, a good variety of colour and neutrals, and the formula is simply one of the best.

Annabelle Stay Sharp Metallic eyeliner in Bronzy (September 2015)

This entire range of Stay Sharp products from Annabelle are 100% worth checking out. I have loved everything I have tried. This particular shade is my favourite because it works so well with my eye colour, but they all stay put and are easy to apply.

Marcelle Double Precision Liquid Liner (CURRENT)

I forgot how much I am in love with this matte, drugstore liner. It is easy to apply and pigmented. I don’t know how I haven’t mentioned this one before either because it has been a favourite since highschool.

Buxom Lash Mascara (CURRENT)

This is a super dark, lengthening mascara that doesn’t disappoint. If you are not a fan of the Too Faced BTS mascara because it is clumpy, here is your not-so-clumpy dupe (to clarify, I do love them both).

Bite High Pigment Pencil in Madeira (May 2015)

This shade isn’t available but I am sure Bite has a similar shade in their permanent collection. Bite specializes in lip products so of course, they are amazing. The one and only issue I have is the wear time but honestly, they feel so lovely to apply that I don’t mind.

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Lip Gloss in D16 (January 2015)

This lip gloss line is no longer available but luckily, I have found a new favourite that is pretty similar and there is no surprise, it is from Bite. The Bite Lush Fruit Lip Gloss line is the same thick and glossy shine that lasts which is what I loved about the MUFE gloss.

I hope you enjoyed this blast from the past – I know I did! Let me know which ones you’ve tried.

July 2015 Favourites & Unfavourites

July is just about over and with all of the shopping I did towards the end of the month, I have a few favourite and unfavourite products I wanted to share.

Roxy picked up a product from the Dollar Tree of all places called the Oxy Natural Action Oil Absorbing lotion. It claims to remove, refresh, restore, replenish your skin and let me tell you, it really did. I have tried a million things to reduce oil but nothing has worked so instantly as this has. It was only $1.25, but my understanding is that it was about $10-$11 for 60 mL. This thing is a miracle which naturally means it has been discontinued. I was so upset to find that out, but luckily, the Dollar Tree by my house had 3 more bottles that I was able to purchase before it was too late.

I have two face washes here: the Equate Pink Grapefruit Foaming Acne Scrub and the Ole Henriksen African Red Tea foaming cleanser. I do not like the Equate cleanser because it’s so drying. However, the Ole Henriksen cleanser may be the one. Review coming very soon!

If you saw my USA haul, two products really stood out above the rest for me and so I had to include them dispite the fact I only had them for about 1/4th of the month. The Lorac Pro 2 palette is exquisite in texture and pigmentation for most of the shades and there is a good variety of colour to play with even for a girl who is not so into neutrals. The second product is the beautiful Too Faced Candlelight Glow highlighter which was once raved about on YouTube. It was totally worth they hype I had heard at least. It is not natural or dramatic, it is simply the perfect glow that feels like silk when you apply it. It is simply wonderful.

I am not overly shocked that I didn’t get along with the Laura Mercier Protection Primer. Though I love the SPF, it just made me a oily mess by the end of the day and I am glad it’s gone. I would totally recommend this to someone that likes a dewy finish but doesn’t really require much in a primer other than some moisture and SPF. That is just not me!

This product is totally new. The Brow This Way gel by Rimmel is the best eyebrow gel I have ever used! Colour: perfect, texture: crunchy, application: easy.

I am 90% sure this has been in my favourites before but I don’t care. This is the Rimmel (again) Scandaleyes Volume Flash mascara. The wand is huge and gets every lash coated. It gives my lashes so much length, it’s unreal.

Roxy also picked me up this beautiful orange polish from China Glaze earlier this year knowing how much I love the colour. I am wearing it right now (as you can see) and it is such a beautiful, bright pop of colour. I will be checking out more of their polish in the future.

I have included this before but I once again don’t care. It’s awesome. This month, I was able to pick up two of the COLAB dry shampoos in Rio and Paris. They work to invisibly clean, volumize, texturize and freshen my hair way better than anything else. They are wonderful and only about $8. What more could you ask for?

I hope you enjoyed hearing about what I loved this July! Many of these will be in upcoming posts so you can see swatches and full reviews. What have you been reaching for lately?

April 2015 Favourite & Unfavourites

Perhaps it’s just me, but I am getting a little bombarded with Favourites videos and blog posts between the 30 up until even now (the 12th). It is pretty crazy and even made me debate on whether I should post one this month at all. After all, with all of the reviews I posted last week, you probably have a good idea what I am going to say. Never the less, I do have a few mentions and 1 unfavourable product that I wanted to share so buckle up.

Just to get this out of the way, I have been loving the Lise Watier Portfolio Professional Corrector wheel, MUFE Step 1 Skin Equalizer AND the Ecotools Eye Perfecting brush all of which were mentioned as mothers day suggestions & have full reviews. The only thing that I will add is that I have been using these every single day. As I mentioned in the Whatcha Think About… Ecotools brushes? post, however, I have been using a second primer to mix with and that is the Smashbox Photo Finish Colour Correcting primer in conjunction with the MUFE Step 1 Skin Equalizer. Though I do LOVE that primer, it doesn’t give my skin as smooth of a finish as the Smashbox one does. If you’re looking for a silicone primer to smooth imperfections and pores while making your foundation and concealer glide on effortlessly, I 100% recommend any of the Smashbox Photo Finish primers. That being said, there are a few cons to them too. Unfortunately, it does make me a bit shiny throughout the day and this redness correcting shade doesn’t do a whole lot for my discolouration which is what I was hoping for. Still, it does the trick and I have been using it frequently.

Staying on face products, I have a blush and bronzer which I have been using quite a bit. Starting with the blush which I have been using over and over again but completely forgetting to include in my make up favourites is the Physicians Formula Nude blush in Light which simply gives a touch of baby pink to your cheeks. It is also pretty buildable if you need a little extra colour. The packaging is also very cute and I received a rebate when I bought it. Can’t go wrong.

For a bronzer lately, I have been using either the dark beige shade in my Lise Watier wheel or this powder from Rimmel. It is waterproof and as the name suggests, quite natural looking. For the price and blendability, it really does the trick when it comes to contour. It’s the Rimmel Natural Bronser in the shade 21 if you’re interested.

On my lips, I have been using the Annabelle Stay Sharp lip liner in Vintage with just about everything. It is such an easy colour and goes with just about all of the pinky pouts I have been wearing lately.

For my eyes, I have been using the MUFE Smokey Stretch mascara just about every day. It gives my lashes a lot of lift making them appear longer and much more open than some other mascaras. I will be diving into a new mascara quite soon as my Rimmel mascara is starting to dry.

For my eye shadow, I have been freaking out (tehe) over Freak from the Urban Decay Electric palette. It is a slightly metallic light green shade that can be played up or down. It reminds me so much of spring and I have worn it in about 5-6 very different looks so far. It’s simply gorgeous.

And the one and only unfavourite isn’t exactly a product but it is a packaging. I have a few Cailyn products which I received through ipsy and they are driving me nuts. From storage to application to sanitation, I am so annoyed with them. This lovely mineral eye polish named Orchid is damn near impossible to get out at times, the brush is ok but I don’t feel like I can wash it properly and it is so tall and odd shaped. If it wasn’t so pretty, it would be gone by now.

Lastly, a fashion item that I have loved this month is just a plain grey, soft Bluenotes t-shirt that I picked up at a thrift store recently. I have wanted to wear it with everything this month because it fits so lovely while being comfortable and versatile. I will take a picture soon to post on Instagram.

That’s all folks. How have you been feeling about favourites posts? I am starting to think that I will just Instagram things as I discover that I love them. Half of this list I had already raved about anyway!

December 2014 Favourites & Unfavourites

December went really quickly for me. With all of the holidays, the anticipation of Christmas and finding a new home, there was a lot keeping me busy. When it came time to pick my best beauty products in December, I had a bit of a hard time. I didn’t wear make up too frequently, or buy much for myself as you saw in my haul, but I was able to pick out a few things I loved and a few that I really don’t. I am going to start with the most important thing that happened in December: I got my engagement ring!

2015/01/img_2809.jpg
My fiancé and I have been engaged for a few years, but since I proposed to her, I hadn’t received a ring of engagement to call my own. I knew I wanted one, and she knew too, so at the beginning of November, she went out and found this gorgeous ring. I won’t go into details, but closer to the end of November, she serenaded me with a beautiful song she wrote for me, and when I turned to look at her, the box was in her hand. I, of course, cried. However, the ring didn’t quite fit so I had to wait several weeks before I actually got to wear it. I picked it up December 14th and it hasn’t left my finger since. Very unique and beautiful, and definently a favourite of mine for the month.

2015/01/img_2803.jpg
With all of the holidays, my next fav has for sure been glitter. A little glitter here, a little sparkle there. I was completely into it all month long. My manicures all month were soaking in shine though none so much as my Christmas Day nails. How spectacular is that? And to top these nails off, I had the pleasure of using another amazing product: the Sally Hansen Triple Shine Top Coat. The number 1 most perfect thing about this product is that the formula is consistent. Not once has it been kind of gloopy or messy. It dries quickly with a gorgeous shine while protecting your nails to boot. The brush is also huge and can cover just about your entire nail in one swipe. If you haven’t tried one of the Triple Shine polishes, you’re missing out. Simply put, I love it – and the price.

2015/01/img_2806.jpg
Staying with nails, I want to briefly mention these amazing nail wraps. As you know, OMG Nail Strips had graciously sent me a few wraps to try in December. Not only are they super cute, but the most amazing part to me is how easily you can take them off. Most other nail wraps are sticky and chunky when taking them off – OPI, Sally Hansen, and Essie to name a few – but these are a dream. They come off easily using nail polish remover but otherwise, they last for at least a week and a half. I will absolutely be picking up some more (actually, I am awaiting the arrival of a few…) so this isn’t the last you’ll be seeing of these!

2015/01/img_2804.jpg
Since the weather has started to take a turn for the chilly, I have been using a lot more lip balm. Though I have about 3-4 on rotation at a time, this one has stood out above the rest. The Lippy Girl Lip Love Lip Conditioning stick is a life saver. I don’t know what it is, but the texture is perfect, the eucalyptus scent is amazing and is so hydrating on my lips. I put it on at least when I wake up and 2-3 times before bed and if I miss a day, you can be sure I notice. Add to the fact that it is organic and cruelty-free, I am sold.

2015/01/img_2805.jpg
A sample piece of skin care that I have been using has also made the list. If you remember last month (or last year, if you wanna play that game), I rambled on about this Kate Somerville miracle worker and how much I loved it. It turns out that I was able to snag another sample of the HydraClear Hydrating Acne Gel to further test out whether I want to drop so much dough on this skin care product. I still am on the fence because so many reviews have said the sample worked wonders, but the product then disappointed. Yikes. But this little sample is saving my skin one zit at a time. It is not drying in the least, a little goes a long way, and as a spot treatment, it works wonders. My acne simply shows up and once this product goes on, it quickly develops and then disappears. By quickly, I mean overnight or for the really big, bad, painful pimples, after a day or so. It’s an amazing product and if you have the $80 (or can get it on sale), I highly recommend it.

2015/01/img_2802.jpg
Some of you may judge me for this, but I was never all that into the Harry Potter series. I did see each movie one, some in theatres and some with a few friends on the couch. For the most part, I never really got into them. I just didn’t care for the story. This December though, my fiancé and I decided to sit down and marathon the movies over a few days to get us into the Christmas spirit. Perhaps that is a bit odd, but I quite a few people do this so I don’t feel too weird about it. Anyways, after popping in each movie, getting sucked into the storyline and watching them in succession, I surprised myself in really liking the series. My most beloved one has always been the Chamber of Secrets which may be the only one I had seen more than once (before now), but I completely understand what everyone was so excited about when these books and movies came out. I am so pumped for the next time we decide to watch them. They are just so good!

2015/01/img_2813.jpg

2015/01/img_2808.jpg
Last up, we have the make up. I am entirely aware that I am the minority in this case, but my first unfavourite of the month is this Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer. Obviously, I have had it for some time and used it almost entirely, but this month I came to the conclusion that it just isn’t for me. Let’s start with the packaging: it is messy, unhygienic and wasteful. Look at all of that product that I will never be able to use. I don’t know why mine is like that when no one else’s seems to be, but I have two shades of this and the same thing has happened to both. It is annoying. The most complained about thing I have heard about with this product is the applicator sponge. It’s something you have to use each time but you can’t really clean it. That is a little disturbing if you ask me. But the reason that this is in my list of dislikes for the month is because for whatever reason, this concealer has decided it wants to have a pool party on my face. I only use this concealer underneath my eyes and for some reason, it has started to pool and crease and move around throughout the day. It simply doesn’t settle. I have tried several primers and setting powders and different ways to apply it but it just doesn’t seem to want to stay put. How annoying is that?

2015/01/img_2812.jpg

2015/01/img_2807.jpg
A newly discovered concealer of mine that has me hooked is this Covergirl Trublend fix stick that I found at the Dollar Store of all places. I always check out the make up aisle at dollar stores because sometimes, they have amazing little gems like this at a great price! I have never been very into Covergirl for whatever reason but this is a game changer. Coverage? Amazing. Colour? Perfect. Consistency? Creamy and thick and soft and supreme. I am in love with this stuff and am now seeking out the foundation to match. It covers all of my acne with ease and any discolouration (as you can see on my vein). I highly recommend giving it a try. You will not be disappointed.

2015/01/img_2811.jpg
Speaking of disappointed, my last product is a bit of a bummer. I purchased the Bite Beauty lip gloss trio to use for gifts but of course, ended up keeping one for myself. I have a few other Bite products which I haven’t used too much, but have liked. When this $12 set came out, I figured it was a great time to give the gloss a try but the results were less than amazing. It’s just really not for me. I don’t know if it is the colour which doesn’t show much or last on my lips, but the consistency and smell don’t help either. The swatch is pretty pigmented here but on the lips, it just doesn’t do anything for me. It isn’t worth the usual price tag in the slightest. I also found that the bit of colour that is there sinks into lip lines very quickly which isn’t really a look I am going for.

Overall, December was a fantastic month and it has left me very excited to see what 2015 brings. If you have a December or 2014 favourites post, link it below so I can see what I may be missing out on! I love reading about all of the best products out there!

October 2014 Favourites & Unfavourites

I have been a little bit all over the place this month with my picks, but trust me, I’ve loved them all! Unlike last month, I have a whole lot to say about these products so bare with me!
Starting with skin care, I have one product I loved and one I didn’t. First off, I have never tried anything from Kate Somerville but with one of my many Sephora orders, I got a sample of Kate Somerville
HydraClear™ Hydrating Acne Gel and let me tell you, it is flawless. I constantly deal with acne and this stuff practically diminished every spot I had overnight! It was also hydrating but didn’t make me any oilier. That’s a biiiig plus in my books.
IMG_2426.JPG
On the other hand, up until now, I have really enjoyed the First Aid Beauty products I have tried before but this one which I had tried over the past month was pretty disappointing. In Sephora’s aisle-of-doom as I call it, there was a ‘mini’ pack of the First Aid Beauty Facial Radience pads. My assumption with this product was that it was a mix of a toner and exfoliater (as it says on the lid). In theory, it makes sense then why it stung my eyes so badly – let me tell you, it only happened once. It also had a weird odour that was off putting. The thing I disliked the most though is that it really didn’t do much for my skin. Actually, I found that my skin became a little dry around my nose, cheeks and any breakouts. I am really oily usually so the fact that I was getting dry patches is unheard of.
For the random things I’ve been enjoying (make up is next, I swear), I have really loved pickles. I have been a little obsessed whether they are on my burger or Instagram. I am a bit of a fanatic.

IMG_2420.JPG
About half way through this month, I did a little bit of candle shopping and picked up the Bath and Body Works candle, London Calling. It’s a tea and lemon scent and I love it. It is so calming and relaxing. I think I may just be a fan of lemon because I have also just about burnt through Lemon Mint Leaf by B&BW too. Oops!
Onto clothing, I have been really into long sleeves (as any Ontarian would when the weather turns chilly), but I started obsessing over warm and loose sweaters since about August. Obviously at that point, I would have been crazy to wear them, but now that we have gone below 10 degrees, I would say it’s ok.

IMG_2424.JPG
I have 3 cosmetic favourites and all are from MAC. Since the store opened in my area, I have been a tad obsessed. First, a classic that I have been using so often is MACs Vanilla Pigment. I don’t even think I have to rave about this one; there are enough people to do that for me. I will say I used it just about every day this month and it really is gorgeous. Pictures do not do it justice.

IMG_2421.JPG
Next up, this beautiful lipstick from the Rocky Horror collection: FrankNFurter. Perfect red is all I have to say. I have been mixing it, wearing it by itself and admiring it from afar.

IMG_2423.JPG
Initially, I had debated purchasing this product when it first came out. When I was recently on MACS website, however, it was still available and I took the plunge. I think the packaging is adorable too for this whole Simpsons collection. It looks a bit intimidating at first, but I have mixed it with practically every colour I own and it constantly adds a little something to my lip.

IMG_0660.JPG
Lastly, nails! In general, I have been really feeling green nail polish. I had alternated quite a bit this month with my nails because of Halloween, Breast Cancer Awareness month, and my sudden obsession with greens! Specifically, I used L’oreal The Temptress’ Touch and OPI’s Green On The Runway (from the OPI Coca Cola Collection).

IMG_2425.JPG
I also tried to revisit my Orly Matte top coat, but came to the same conclusion as usual: I really don’t like it. It goes on fine, looks great for the first few hours, but after that, it isn’t matte anymore or my nails are chipped. I think it may finally be time for me to toss this and look for an alternative.

What is your favourite matte top coat?

What have you loved this month?
