#MOTD: Something Old, Something New

And no, this isn’t another wedding post.

Inspired by Beauty With Emily Fox on YouTube, I took a look through my old favourites from the past few years that I have been blogging and put them to the test to see what I still liked and what was just a phase. Where does the ‘something new’ come in? I had to fill in the gaps with some of my current favourites from my collection. Enjoy!

Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer Original (January 2016)

This primer is still as lovely as ever. I wouldn’t say it is my number 1 primer as I do find that my skin can look a little dry and my pores are still a little bit visible, but I have kept it because I love how it feels on the skin.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation in 110 Porcelain (January 2016)

My favourite thing about this foundation is the colour match. Other than that, I wouldn’t say this is gives me either a matte or poreless finish and it doesn’t feel great on my skin. I no longer support the company as it isn’t cruelty-free but regardless, I am not in love with this product anymore.

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer (February/March 2015 and again in October 2015)

For inexpensive and full coverage, I don’t think you can beat this. It does separate a little and the packaging isn’t ideal, but I do like how this looks under the eyes.

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Glow (August 2015)

This was my wedding day blush so you know it is still my number 1. I love how this blush gives life to my skin with a bit of a glow without the oil slick. I prefer cream blushes and find that this one is one of the more pigmented with fantastic staying power.

elf HD Undereye Setting Powder and Tone Correcting Powder (CURRENT)

I am blown away that I haven’t raved about these two inexpensive, cruelty-free powders. I rarely will use anything else. They both set my make up well without oxidizing or drying out my skin. They are easy to use and apply, and keep my oily skin under control. I do need to touch up through the day (I use blotting papers to do so) but these look and feel so good.

Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighter (July 2015)

That glow though. I still love this highlighter. It has a gorgeous, healthy shine to it while being a good balance of natural and glamourous.

Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner in Universal Medium (pictured is Universal Taupe – January 2016)

This is my go-to and it is drugstore. I am constantly using these up and repurchasing them. If there is one item you try from this post, it should be this.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance (February/March 2015)

This is another product that I use every day and have multiple backups of. It is my favourite eye primer because of how smooth it feels on the lids and how beautifully pigment sticks to it.

March Jacobs Twinkle Pop in Honey Bunny (February/March 2015 and again in December 2015)

This isn’t quite an every day product for me, but when I need a pop of glossy, glittery shine, this is the only thing I reach for. I set this with a few shades in the ABH MR palette (next) here but the cream shadow still shines through. It is simply gorgeous.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette (Fall 2016)

Who doesn’t love this palette? It has so many warm tones, a good variety of colour and neutrals, and the formula is simply one of the best.

Annabelle Stay Sharp Metallic eyeliner in Bronzy (September 2015)

This entire range of Stay Sharp products from Annabelle are 100% worth checking out. I have loved everything I have tried. This particular shade is my favourite because it works so well with my eye colour, but they all stay put and are easy to apply.

Marcelle Double Precision Liquid Liner (CURRENT)

I forgot how much I am in love with this matte, drugstore liner. It is easy to apply and pigmented. I don’t know how I haven’t mentioned this one before either because it has been a favourite since highschool.

Buxom Lash Mascara (CURRENT)

This is a super dark, lengthening mascara that doesn’t disappoint. If you are not a fan of the Too Faced BTS mascara because it is clumpy, here is your not-so-clumpy dupe (to clarify, I do love them both).

Bite High Pigment Pencil in Madeira (May 2015)

This shade isn’t available but I am sure Bite has a similar shade in their permanent collection. Bite specializes in lip products so of course, they are amazing. The one and only issue I have is the wear time but honestly, they feel so lovely to apply that I don’t mind.

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Lip Gloss in D16 (January 2015)

This lip gloss line is no longer available but luckily, I have found a new favourite that is pretty similar and there is no surprise, it is from Bite. The Bite Lush Fruit Lip Gloss line is the same thick and glossy shine that lasts which is what I loved about the MUFE gloss.

I hope you enjoyed this blast from the past – I know I did! Let me know which ones you’ve tried.

What’s in my Z Palette?

Hello all! This month is Sephora brand beauty month and though I don’t have a whole lot of their make up, I do have a few other things. For example, their Z Palettes.

Several months ago, I was looking into getting a Z Palette simply to consolidate my single eye shadows. I found that I wouldn’t reach for them and with all of the different shapes and sizes, it was a pain to store them. After some online searching, I happened upon the Sephora Collection palettes in their three different sizes. I have the baby and dome sizes.

Most recently, I picked up the baby sized palette to depot my Benefit Sweet Cheeks blush palette. It was so bulky and I never used it because it didn’t fit in with the rest of my palettes. This medium sized palette stores them all quite well and is about half the width (or more).

Top L to R: Benefit Rockatur, Bellabamba, Dandilion

Bottom L to R: Benefit Hoola, Sugar Bomb, Coralista

In my larger Z Palette are my eye shadows. I have a pretty good assortment of them and a lot of room to grow.

Top L to R: Maybelline Vanilla, Bare Minerals Passion, Muse, MUFE D 850, I340

Middle L to R: Urban Decay Oil Slick, Bust, Guilt, Skimp, MUFE M856, MAC Amethyst

Bottom L to R: Pop Beauty bronzer, Pacifica Celestial, Opal, MAC Black Grape

I depotted the Bare Mineral Inspiration duo as well as a 500 pt perk from Urban Decay for all of those mini’s at the top. Between these two palettes, I have everything I need to make my look and then some! I hope you enjoyed seeing what was in my Z palettes.

The Palette Tag

Hey all! I’ve seen this little tag floating around the beauty community and tough I don’t remember if I was tagged (let me know if I was and I am simply forgetting), I thought it would be a whole lot of fun to do anyway.  Continue reading “The Palette Tag”

Best of 2015

best of 2015
Hey all! Welcome to the final day of 2015. I hope it is going well. Today, I thought I would talk about my favourite products that I have discovered this year. Some of these are now staples in my collection and you know them all if you have been tuning in for a while. I have mentioned most of these products in previous favourites or reviews which means they have withstood the test of time and I am still loving them. Let’s get into it.

Skin Care

reversa solution for oily acne prone skin vichy normaderm night detox
You may be totally aware that skin care has been priority number 1 for me this year and with that came a slew of products. The start of it all for me was the Vichy Normaderm Night Detox moisturizer that I initially received as a sample from Shoppers in March/April. It makes the world of difference for my skin in terms of acne. I have gone from some pretty painful breakouts to one-two little pimples using this product alone. Another acne fighting game-changer for me has been the Reversa Solution for Oily and acne prone skin**. I have used this both as a toner and an acne spot treatment and it delivers amazing results both ways. Pimples disappear in a day or two and my blackheads are clearing up making for a much smoother complexion. This is also available at Shoppers which I would never have guessed would be my one-stop-shop for skin care.

glamglow lippy girl lip love lip conditioning stick
If you know me, you know masks are my favourite thing and I have so many of them. The Glamglow Supermud clearing treatment is still my number one holy grail mud mask to clear things up but with the improvement in my skin near the end of the year, I see a change on the horizon. Regardless, this was my go-to mask for 2015 and it is totally worth it for you if you have oily/acne prone skin. My final skin care find of 2015 was a lip balm which I don’t think I will ever stray from: the Lippy Girl Lip Love Lip Conditioning stick in Eucalyptus Mint. This is an amazing balm for healing and hydrating and on top of that, it has all the good qualities of a product: cruelty-free, organic, lasts forever, smells great. All the good stuff.

Make Up

smashbox photo finish primers
physicians formula nude rose blush make up for ever ultra hd foundation benefit hello flawless oxygen wow foundation lise watier portfolio corrector wheel

What you’re really here for is the make up. There are quite a few in 2015 that I found and love and as usual, we will start with the primer. No shock here that my number one is the Smashbox Photo Finish primer. Thus far, I have enjoyed the entire line with my favourite being the Colour Correcting green shade to help with the redness I get in my cheeks. I also use the Lise Watier Portfolio Concealer Wheel daily to spot correct around my nose, mouth and cheeks with the green shade. The consistency is lovely with high coverage but no oiliness or cakey feel. I wish I had more uses for the other four shades in the palette but either way, it’s worth it to have this concealer in my routine.

For foundation, I have to go with the Benefit Hello Flawless and Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation. I love the coverage, the colour match, the lasting power, the finish and everything else for both of these. Though quite pricey, but I don’t think anything else I have tried quite compares. I prefer the Benefit Foundation far more when used without powder with its super yellow tones but when I am going for a more mattified complexion, the MUFE foundation is perfect. Another favourite face product would be the Physicians Formula blush in Nude Rose. This is a natural but very pink blush that I go for way more often than I would ever have guessed. It is hard to go to heavy handed with this blush because it is so nude-wearing but it gives a super pretty finish in my opinion.

annebelle stay sharp eye liner bronzey snow white too faced shadow insurance primer abh world traveller palette
For the eyes, it may not be a surprise that the Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveler palette was my number one this year. It stole the show. The warm neutral but still bold shades and amazing pigmentation while still being soft and blendable. Seriously out of this world and I want to buy everything ABH has in powder form. Holy cow, I still can’t get over how beautiful this is. Before shadow comes primer and my eye shadow primer of choice is the Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer. It doesn’t look or feel cakey and it makes my shadows stick without ruining my blending which is something I haven’t found in other primers yet.

I have neglected eye liner a little bit this year but I still have a pencil and liquid fave. Annabelle totally blew me away with the Annabelle Stay Sharp eye liners of which I have a deep and undying love for Bronzey**, their brown metallic shade. It is water proof and doesn’t disappear through the day. It simply always looks flawless. My number one liquid liner I do not have anymore (ran out unfortunately) but still deserves a mention. It is the Make Up For Ever Ink Liner** and it is everything perfect in a liner. Easy to apply, black as it gets, matte and budge proof. It isn’t, however, waterproof.

Everything Else

colab dry shampoo rio new york
I have a hair and nail favourite that I thought should mention. For the hair, I pretty much stick to dry shampoo and my number one is totally COLAB Sheer Invisible or Xtreme Volume in Rio. I find the Xtreme Volume line harsher on my hair but when I need that volume, it is just the best. I don’t find their to be any white residue, it smells great and feels fantastic too. In terms of nails, the Essence Nail Art Express Dry Drops have become a staple when I do my nails. It is awesome on my cuticles and dries my nails quickly with little mess. Did I mention it is only $3?

Why not also throw in a trend favourite of 2015? I personally love the chunky boot style that I have seen this year and have picked up 2 pairs this fall that I adore. I don’t typically wear heels or care about shoes but these two from Spring are insanely comfortable and so beautiful. The Galiredien and Kingsmore styles are both on sale and I totally recommend giving them a try!

2015 as a year was pretty amazing and I can only hope to have another year like it for 2016! Let me know what you have loved this year so I can give them a try. Happy New Years all!

Sparkle and Shine

Hey all! Though we are nearing the end of December, I wanted to round up some of my favourite glistening, glittering make up products that you can use for New Years or any other celebrations you may be celebrating in the early months of 2016.

essie hor d'oeurves
I have talked about some of my beloved Nail Polish glitters before but didn’t get to include Essie’s Hour D’oeurves. This gold sparkle mixed with silver chunky glitters has shown up in a fair number of my own nail polish posts before but it truly deserves the attention. It’s quite the unique shade and a staple in many collections.

For the eyes, I had to mention the stunning Marc Jacobs Twinklepop shadow stick in Honey Bunny. I first saw this in a Vintage or Tacky review of the Twinklepops and it was literally love at first sight. I do not understand how someone could look over this and not buy it even with the hefty price tag. It is totally different from other products and totally luxurious.

With this is the Elizabeth Mott You’re So Fine liquid liner in Glitterati. Not going to lie, this kind of smells funny but it has from day one. I received it in an ipsy bag and love using it for a black liner that pops.

mufe lab shine d16

I very recently was heartbroken when discovering these were discontinued but I wanted to talk about it anyway. This is the Make Up For Ever Lab Shine lipgloss in D 16. Literally my favourite lip gloss ever. I am crossing my fingers and praying the Plexigloss that replaced these are just as good or better. This gloss, however, is a fantastic sheer nude with glitter throughout and it just enhances anything you pair it with.

milani dolce pink blush the balm mary-lou manizer
dolce pink mary-lou manizer swatch

I couldn’t leave out the cult classic Mary-Lou Manizer highlight from the Balm. It is an intense glow as you likely have seen before since this is the most popular highlighter ever. Another cheek/face product I love would be the Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink. With my acne, I do have to ensure that my cheeks are free and clear when I wear this but when the situation is right, it is totally stunning.

Those are my top dog sparkling products that I totally recommend from Sephora to drugstore. I hope there are some gems in here you’re looking to try!

What I Got For Christmas 2015

Hey all! This year, I decided to do a little haul of what I got this year for Christmas! Please don’t take this as bragging – I just love hauls like this so I thought I would do one this year! This is not to brag but I was extremely spoiled and Roxanne is freaking amazing, just sayin’.

We only have about 3 gift exchanges in total and they are all with family. Firstly, Roxanne’s side did a Secret Santa kind of exchange & from my secret Santa, I received a beautiful tea set. This includes a lovely loose-leaf kettle, 4 varieties of tea and 4 jars to keep them in. I plan to use the jars in my beauty room and add the tea to my collection. Roxy’s mom also gave me a not-Christmas related gift but I thought I would include it in here anyway because it was so sweet of her! She knitted me a hat and scarf but not just any old hat and scarf. The hat has a little spot in the top for my ponytail/bun to poke through and I am obsessed with that! The scarf is also a beautiful knit (do not know what it is called) but it is nice and warm and of course, matches my hat!

sephora bite beauty discovery kit

lush festive friends
We also had a gift exchange with my mom/dad and from them, I received some super exciting things! In the beauty area of things, I received the Bite Beauty Bite Discovery kit which was totally on my wish list and a $25 Sephora giftcard. I also received the Festive Friends gift box from Lush which smells incredible. Seriously, seriously incredible.

ott tv box
easy acc power bank

For some tech because mom and I are quite the techy loving ladies, I received a EasyAcc power bank but not just any power bank. It has 4 ports and a flashlight. It’s intense. She also gifted Roxanne and I a Android box for our TV since we don’t have cable! I am pretty excited at the possibilities.

monopoly
canada mint tweety bird coin

Finally, on the more comfort side of Amy, they gave Roxanne and I a few board games: Monopoly and Battle Ship. I am a big lover of cards and board games (Roxanne not so much) so these were on my Christmas wish list for sure. Mom also gave us a beautiful warm winter throw blanket that I am always a sucker for. My dad very sweetly picked up the Canadian Mint $10 Tweety Bird coin. No, I am not a coin collector, but my parents used to always call me Tweety when I was little and it’s kind of a tradition that I get Tweety Bird memorabilia for Christmas. And what Christmas is complete without getting a pair of PJs. This year, I got my first onsie from Denver Hayes and I am in love. It is a polar bear but it reminds me so much of lambchop, it’s hilarious.

Typically, Roxanne and I don’t exchange gifts so I was so surprised when mid-December rolled around and gifts for me started popping up under our tree. I was freaking out because I hadn’t planned on doing a gift exchange and suddenly, I needed to round up some gifts. While I was sick. And ordering stuff online was not really an option. Luckily, I had a few ideas up my sleeve and some time when Roxy was working.

sephora glamglow gift sexy antiaging and ole henriksen glow
Roxanne killed it with the gifts. She really knows me so well and was able to pick out these things without much guidance from me. Starting with some skin care, she got the Ole Henriksen Cleanse and Glow on the go duo which I have had and enjoyed before. Secondly and very unexpectedly, I opened up the Glamglow Gift Sexy Anti-Age gift set which includes my favourite Supermud treatment from Glamglow as well as the Anti-Aging full sized Youth Mud and travel sized Youth Cleanse as well. There was also the softest brush I have ever felt which I always use to apply face masks.

cinema secrets make up brush cleaner
guerlain meteorites perles

Before moving onto make up, she also happened to pick up the Cinema Secrets brush cleaner which came with a tin to try! This was totally on my list since seeing Dani from Coffee Break with Dani talk about this about a month ago. She also received a delux sample when ordering of the Guerlain Météorites Perles primer and I was pretty floored. I had just seen In The Frow talk about this and was mesmerized so the fact that it was a deluxe sample was like mind-blowing to me.

marc jacobs oh miley and hourglass canvas liquid lip stick
She picked up two unexpected lipsticks for me to try. First of all, the Hourglass liquid lipstick in Canvas which has also totally been on my wishlist for some time and I just never got around to picking it up. It’s gorgeous and I really enjoy this Hourglass formula. I was also totally blown away when I opened Oh Miley from Marc Jacobs. I would never have in a million years guessed I would own this but it is totally stunning. Instant favourite.

make up for ever artist volume 2, too faced return of the sexy eye and smashbox double exposure
Finally, three eye shadow palettes that she picked up for me all of which totally blew me away: the Too Faced the Return of Sexy palette, the Smashbox Double Exposure palette and the Make Up For Ever Artist Palette Volume 2. I am pretty sure every time I opened one of these, I squealed. I haven’t owned palettes from any of these brands and I am so excited to try them out.

I hope you enjoyed this rather large haul. Obviously, I love everything I got but I was particularly excited to spend Christmas day together – no work, no rush, no interruptions. These few days were amazing to spend with family and enjoy some seriously delicious food which is why you may have noticed I wasn’t on social media so much this past week. I hope whoever you are, you had a very Merry Christmas or a happy holiday!

#Finish5 & Taking Out The Trash for Fall 2015

Well well well, here we are again. Hey all! I’m here with two months worth of empty products, and of course, my #Finish5 which I actually successfully finished something from!

finish 5 for august

Very excitingly, I finished up the Maybelline Coverstick Concealer in Green which I will not be picking up again, and I will explain why a little later on. I did leave the littlest bit in the tube if you can see it, simply because my brush couldn’t pick up any of the product. The remaining four products are not done and don’t look like I made a whole lot of progress. Frankly, I didn’t wear make up for the first half of this month due to sickness so I don’t feel like I used a whole lot of anything.

empty skin care

Now, let’s talk about what I actually emptied the majority of which is actually skin care. I finally finished the VII Code Oxygen Eye Masks** which were awesome for evening out my under eye area overnight. They felt nice, stay on well and I am likely to pick up another set in the future, but for now, I am going to finish up some eye creams instead. I finished several Pilatin Black Head masks as usual. Did anyone want a review of these? They are extremely effective peel off blackhead masks and I would be happy to do a whole post about them. The second mask I have there is my beloved Glamglow Supermud clearing treatment which is sadly 100% gone. It is totally worth the $76, just trust me (or read my full review). I think this was the third one I have gone through in 2-3 years.

The Ole Henriksen cleanser that I have here I did already review and talk about before and I like it quite a bit. I feel like that is mostly due to the fact it is a foaming cleanser which I prefer over anything. and everything. The Elizabeth Arden night cream sample was absolutely lovely to use but I just can’t bare to replace my Vichy Night Detox at this time. My acne is way to under control right now for me to even consider trying something new. I wasn’t entirely sure if the Annabelle Eye Make Up Remover Pads** counted as skin care but I wanted to include them here anyways. These did a good job at removing everything from your eyes whether waterproof or super duper black. I don’t love how oily this was and there had been a few mascaras that didn’t totally come off so I will probably pass on this in the future.

bath and body works aloha waikiki, pumpkin cinnamon bun and turquoise waters

wood craft cracklin fire and slatkin and co s'mores
Three three wick candles we finished include Aloha Waikiki, Turqioise Waters and Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun which I don’t think we will be picking up as they were all quite strong. I prefer something a little more subtle or more fruity/fresh scents. We also used up two mini candles one of which is Slatkin & Co’s S’mores and the other was a Wood Craft candle from the Dollar Mart by my house. They both rocked and I want a million more for next fall… or summer… or spring. Both lovely.

make up empties

Despite not using much make up this month, I used up a few things! The Maybelline concealer I had mentioned already, so lets move on to the other 4 things. I am kind of tempted to pick up the Mac Zoom Lash mascara mini. I really liked how it made my lashes look and I think it would be fantastic for anyone who wanted a lot of length. Speaking of, the Red Cherry falsies in #106 I used for my Halloween Costume and they looked gorgeous. I do still have these to use again and I would totally recommend them! The one product here I would not recommend is the Nars lipgloss in Supervixen from the Bronze Bares All Sephora collection. If you read my Fave/Unfave post back in June, you know my biggest issue with this lip gloss: the packaging. Well, it totally broke. I ended up storing the remaining lip gloss elsewhere because I couldn’t bring myself to toss a barely used $30 lip gloss. The colours is alright, the formula is alright, the brand really hasn’t impressed me yet. Last of my make up here is the Urban Decay De-slick setting spray which I didn’t see make a whole lot of difference in my oiliness so I will also not be picking this up.

nail and fragrence empties

For nail polish, I am not shocked that the OPI You’re So Vain-illa mini is gone. I used that polish constantly this year and have a full sized bottle to replace it! I was not so in love with the OPI Nail Envy and find that the Essie Grow Faster base coat that replaced this works much better. Sorry, OPI.

I don’t talk about perfume too often but I do love and own a full sized Clean Skin perfume. This sample came in a Sephora set and I totally forgot about it so I decided to use it up since I wear it every other day. A new sample for me was the Givenchy Dahlia Divin which smelled pretty but not totally my scent. This had about 3 uses in it.

hair and tool empties

Now for a few random hair and maybe skin and tool type products that I had to get rid of this month. First off, one of the reasons I am not purchasing the Maybelline Coverstick Concealer again is because it has ruined my brush (which is a no-name brush from a set on Amazon that looks a whole lot like a certain amazing looking brush set but for much less). Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame the concealer exactly, but this brush got so clogged up with this stuff and it is not easy to clean it off. I actually can’t clean it off. Now all I can think of is how it totally clung to my brush and stained it and frankly, I just don’t trust a product that does that. What might it be doing to my skin? What has it done to my skin? Oh gosh.

Another tool I have sitting there is a little face shaver which I use to shape my brows either when I am a little lazy or in a hurry. This comes in a 3 pack and I am onto the next one. Love these little things. There is an empty pack of Clean and Clear Blotting papers which I have been using since grade 8 or so. I haven’t picked up a pack to replace this yet since I have a Sephora brand set but I think I still may go back to these.

Lately, we have a COLAB Extreme Volume dry shampoo in Paris. I was hoping that this would smell like my favourite Batiste dry shampoo (in Blush) but it did not. I still love the formula but plan to pick up the same formula in Rio for the future.

finish 5 for fall

My #Finish5 products for December include the Temptu highlight, Boots/No7 Overnight Revitalizing Eye Balm and Benefit Gimmie Brow again because I feel like I am so close to finishing them off, but I am not continuing on with the MUFE blush because there is just no way I will finish this anytime soon! This thing is endless and I am kind of glad because I love it. Replacing this and the Maybelline Concealer are the Elf Liquid Liner in Brown and the Rimmel Match Perfection concealer in 125 fair. I love these two and I don’t think it will be hard to finish them up in the next few weeks.
