#MOTD: Silver & Gold🎶

Most people would think of greens and reds when you’re talking about Christmas, but I wanted to do something a little different this year and draw inspiration from my favourite Christmas Tune: Silver and Gold. I am all kinds of nostalgic about that little tune.

But other than simply loving the song, I thought I would challenge myself to come up with different ways to incorporate the two shades. I’ve gotta say I’m pretty pleased with the result! Would I wear this to my family Christmas dinner? Probably not. That doesn’t make me love it any less.

For the products, I love that I was able to use so many favourites of mine while doing something different than I usually do. I was also able to use products I haven’t had the chance to wear yet like NYX Stone Fox which is so much better than I thought it would be! For anyone keeping track, I was able to do silver shadow and lips, and gold liner and highlight. My blush also has some gold sparkle to it of course. This look is also almost entirely drugstore products!

#MOTD: My Wedding Day

For the big day, I had to use the products that were near and dear to my heart so many of these are holy grail status make up items. It’s a great idea to use your die hard products on important days (such as a wedding) to ensure you have one less thing to worry about through the day. You know how everything wears, you know it wont cause problems, and you feel and look great.

Before the make up though, I did a spa-like skin care routine to make sure my face was perfectly even, plump and ready for make up. My tip: use a charcoal mask to remove some impurities the night before and a brightening, hydrating sheet mask the morning of.

Addicted To Blush Tag

Back in March, the lovely and beautiful Melanie from I am not a beauty guru tagged me to do the Addicted To Blush Tag! This tag has been floating around the beauty community lately so I was super excited to be tagged to join the fun!

1. What colour blush suits you the most?

I really love the wind-burned, frost-bitten type of look on myself and to achieve that, I go with a red-pink. I typically will achieve this look with the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Pink Escape which comes off very natural but still quite strong.

2. Pressed/cream/loose blush?

I have never tried a loose blush but I tend to love a cream blush. Though I am oily and it doesn’t always last on me, I find it looks so much more natural and feels better on my skin. I will top it with a powder blush for double the lasting power.

3. Favourite shimmery blush?

I gotta go with the Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink. With my acne scarring and large pores, I stay away from shimmer but it’s just a gorgeous shade and an awesome formula.

4. Favourite matte blush?

It’s so hard to pick a matte blush shade that is my number one but I think I am going to go with the Too Faced How Deep Is Your Love? I love the formula of these blushes and they are one of the few matte blushes I own.

5. Favourite cream blush?

I have to go with the Josie Maran blush I mentioned earlier. I love the natural but noticeable flush of this blush.

6. Favourite drugstore blush?

I have to say my favourite and most used blush is Physicians Formula Nude Wear in Rose. It is definitely a light pink shade that I don’t typically go to but something about it looks so subtle and goes with everything.

7. Favourite high end blush?

Though I haven’t dabbled too much into the high end world of blush, I do love the Too Faced Love Flush blushes. They last hours, I love the company, the packaging is the most adorable thing ever, and of course, they have great pigment. What’s not to love?

8. Favourite bright blush?

If I am going bright, I am going for something bold so I would go with one of the two bright shades in my BH Cosmetics blush palette. One is a cool toned pink and one is a super bright orange.

9. Biggest blush disappointment or regret?

Though this isn’t exactly a blush product, I am disappointed in the two blushes from the BH Cosmetics Contour and Blush palette in Light. First off, they are the exact same shade so it is useless to have both in the palette but they are also so pigmented and intense, it would be hard not to look like a clown. I bought this for the highlight/contour shades though so I am not entirely disappointed.

10. Best blush packaging?

Totally 100% going with Too Faced again. I can’t deal with how adorable their stuff is and heart shaped things are totally my thing.

11. What’s on your blush wish list?

I have definitely not tried enough high end blushes so I am going to have to go with some of the Urban Decay Afterglow blushes or the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecting blush. I have some serious heart-eyes for these two.

12. Number 1 holy grail blush?

I am not sure I could pick one blush or even one brand that is my holy grail because I love different blushes for different reasons. Every company I have mentioned here is fantastic and bonus, they are all cruelty-free!

If anything, I hope this tag introduced you to a few less-talked about gems! I am always interested in recommendations so leave them for me below! If you would like to do this tag, go for it and leave your link below! I would love to hear what you’re faves are. Thanks again to Melanie for tagging me!

Sparkle and Shine

Hey all! Though we are nearing the end of December, I wanted to round up some of my favourite glistening, glittering make up products that you can use for New Years or any other celebrations you may be celebrating in the early months of 2016.

essie hor d'oeurves
I have talked about some of my beloved Nail Polish glitters before but didn’t get to include Essie’s Hour D’oeurves. This gold sparkle mixed with silver chunky glitters has shown up in a fair number of my own nail polish posts before but it truly deserves the attention. It’s quite the unique shade and a staple in many collections.

For the eyes, I had to mention the stunning Marc Jacobs Twinklepop shadow stick in Honey Bunny. I first saw this in a Vintage or Tacky review of the Twinklepops and it was literally love at first sight. I do not understand how someone could look over this and not buy it even with the hefty price tag. It is totally different from other products and totally luxurious.

With this is the Elizabeth Mott You’re So Fine liquid liner in Glitterati. Not going to lie, this kind of smells funny but it has from day one. I received it in an ipsy bag and love using it for a black liner that pops.

I very recently was heartbroken when discovering these were discontinued but I wanted to talk about it anyway. This is the Make Up For Ever Lab Shine lipgloss in D 16. Literally my favourite lip gloss ever. I am crossing my fingers and praying the Plexigloss that replaced these are just as good or better. This gloss, however, is a fantastic sheer nude with glitter throughout and it just enhances anything you pair it with.

I couldn’t leave out the cult classic Mary-Lou Manizer highlight from the Balm. It is an intense glow as you likely have seen before since this is the most popular highlighter ever. Another cheek/face product I love would be the Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink. With my acne, I do have to ensure that my cheeks are free and clear when I wear this but when the situation is right, it is totally stunning.

Those are my top dog sparkling products that I totally recommend from Sephora to drugstore. I hope there are some gems in here you’re looking to try!

Ulta, Sephora & Walmart Beauty Haul

Here I am after my second ever trip to the USA for some beauty and clothing shopping. Last year, I wasn’t blogging when I went but let me assure you, I came back with quite a few goodies which I still am loving now (and some that I haven’t opened yet…). This weekend, my plan was to try some new things: brands I haven’t used before, products that are difficult to get a hold of in Canada and some pretty things that I was just drooling over. Let’s start with some skin care.

Most of these are from Sephora though I didn’t do nearly as much shopping there as I would have liked. I had seen the Peter Thomas Roth mini mask set online and it looked like it was no longer available in Canada, so I really wanted to pick it up. I have never tried anything from the brand before but I love masks, I love trying new things and I really love mini/travel sized products. Speaking of which, I picked up a travel Sized Glamglow Supercleanse cleanser which I also believe isn’t available in Canada (not as a mini). I love the mask so I decided to give the cleanser a try. I have used it once and liked it so far, but I am not sure I will ever take the $43 plunge to buy the 5oz bottle of it. For my darling fiance, I picked up the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair cream which she recently discovered and really likes.  I also picked up a few things which were not from Sephora: the L’Oreal Hydrafresh Toner and the Equate Pink Grapefruit Foaming Acne Scrub. I do NOT like this exfoliator at all, but I had picked it up after realizing that I didn’t bring any face wash with me to our hotel. The L’Oreal Toner is nice so far, after using it twice but we shall see!

For make up, I really tried to stick to getting powder products because I am really lacking. My blushes, highlighter, setting powder and powder foundations are pretty small compared to everything else in my collection of products. With that in mind, I grabbed 4 blushes: the Milani Rose Blushes in Coral Love and Tea Rose, the Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink and the Too Faced Love Flushed Blush in How Deep Is Your Love? I have only swatched these so far but they are all beautiful and very exciting. I also was on the hunt for the Real Techniques Blush Brush so when I saw it at Ulta, it went right into my basket.

The many other face powders I picked up were the Elf Tone Correcting powder, the Elf Under Eye setting powder, the Bare Minerals Well Rested Undereye setting powder, the Essence All About Matt powder and the L’Oreal True Match powder foundation in W1. I have tried a few of these and have to play around with them a bit more before giving my opinion.

Before we move on, I wanted to show you the star of the show for me and that is the Too Faced Candlelight Glow highlighter I picked up at Sephora. Words cannot describe how beautiful it is. It is shimmery but not glittery, it is creamy and soft, it is simply the most beautiful glow I have ever seen. I can’t get over how gorgeous it is. It makes me want to give the Too Faced eye shadows a try because if they are just as perfectly textured as this, I will just lose it. My money that is. And buy it all.

A few more products I picked up that I didn’t exactly need, but are harder to get a hold of in Canada. Here is the Elf Highlight and conceal concealer, the Elf Under Eye Hydrating Primer, the Wet n’ Wild Megaslicks balm stain in See If I Carrot and the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Athens. I really like the Wet n’ Wild Megaslicks balms but there was no selection where I was or I would have picked up many more. They taste awful but are pigmented and very balmy. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream is my current favourite colour: a nude brown red kind of shade that hopefully suites me. I think it does anyway!

Finally, I went and did some damage with eye shadow. L’Oreal seemed really inexpensive in the US so I picked up a L’Oreal Infallable shadow in Always Pearly Pink which is disco ball pink so I love it. A similar product I saw was the Hard Candy Fierce Effects eye shadow in Lost & Found. Though similar, these are much messier than the L’Oreal shadows but still quite beautiful.

Lastly, what I wanted to visit Ulta for in the first place is the Lorac Pro 2 eye shadow palette. I was having a hard time picking between the two palettes but Cora from Vintage or Tacky did a whole video on the Lorac Pro 2 when it came out and I simply fell in love. It is beautiful. The texture is fantastic for most of the shades, they are also so easy to blend and the colour selection is beautiful too. I can see me making many different looks with this. I also really enjoy the texture of the primer more so than the Urban Decay Primer Potion I am currently using.

We’re at the end of the haul! Let me know if there is something you want to see more of or know more about. I am extremely excited about 99% of my purchases here. Let me know if you want to see what clothing I picked up and if you like hauls as much as I do!
