My Current Brow Routine

Once upon a time, I really disliked my brows. They are now and have always been bushy and uneven, patchy and hard to shape. When big, bold and heavily made-up brows became trendy however, I figured out a way to make them work pretty well for me. Take a look at my current routine.

My brow maintenance mainly consists of plucking and a little bit of shaving once a week. Since my hair grows in fast, I also have to trim them up and brush them out a few times a week or they are a tad out of control. I will trim them first brushing the inner part of my brow up towards my forehead and the tail down towards my ear just to show me which hair needs to be trimmed up. Once my hair is tidy, I will pluck away the strays with my favourite tweezers from Revlon. Finally, to finish off any maintenance, I will use a face razor (found at Walmart) and shave above my brow until I am happy with the shape.

My favourite way to do my brows is with powder and I use the Quo Powder in Brunette and a angled liner brush also from Quo. I make a bit of an outline with the powder first before lightly filling in any patches. Some parts of my brow are a little stubborn so I will also go in with an eyebrow pencil to finish the job. After one more brush through, voila!

#MOTD: My First Video

As you may have guessed, this little tutorial here also comes with a video! I am not sure how often I will include a video, whether this is the style I will stick with, and so on, but I hope you at least enjoyed this one!

Primer: I used the Cover FX Calming Primer for the first time here.

Concealer: the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Perfecting Concealer. I used the yellow shade on my redness and the lightest pinky shade on my undereyes. Following that, I used some Hard Candy Glamoflauge in Ultra Light under my eyes to brighten. After some foundation, I added in a little more and blended it in fully.

Foundation: A recent discovery and favourite is the Gosh X-Ceptional Wear Foundation in Porcelain.

Powder: To set it all, I used the Essence All About Matt powder.

Brows: Quo Brow Focus in Brunette.

Eye shadow primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Eye shadow: I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveller palette. This was limited edition but many shades are still available. All over everything, I used Soft Peach. In the crease and outter corner, we have some Fudge. On the lid, I added Bellini for a little more shimmer and pigment. Going in with two of my favourite shades of the palette, I put Intense Gaze exactly where I put Bellini, then Pink Champagne on top. In the crease, I added Azure quite heavily and blended until I was happy. I had to touch up with Pink Champagne when I was done.

Eye liner: I added a bit of Annabelle eye liner in Espresso.

Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex.

Bronzer: Tarte The Sculpter in Park Ave Princess.

Blush: BH Cosmetics Blush Palette

Highlight: The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer.

Lipstick: Hourglass Liquid Lipstick in Canvas.

Please let me know what you think of my first ever video and this format for a tutorial. All of the products used were cruelty free, but not all of the brushes!

Even More Trash: Winter 2016

I’m here with Part 2: the make up, nail and hair portion of this Winters trash! If you’re interested in what skin and body care I used up, head over here.

For make up this season, I did a bit of a cleanse and got rid of a few things where not worth the hassle to make it work. I also managed to finish a couple of things. Out of all of this makeup, the only product I plan to repurchase is the Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner in Universal Medium. This is my go to brow product that ends up in ever single empties post. I totally love it and now have it in Universal Light to try out! The products I am tossing are the Benefit Watts Up, Bite Beauty Violet lipstick and MAC Mocha blush. These are all products I could use and muddle around with but it’s more trouble than it’s worth. I have a second Watts Up, the blush doesn’t look or feel right and though I like Bite lipsticks, I don’t have the patience to pull out a lip brush and use the product that’s stuck in the lid or tube.

If you follow my #Finish5 series, you know I’m not a fan of the Benefit Gimmie Brow mainly because I need something with more umph (like the Rimmel Brow This Way). For that reason, this is my first and last tube though I may give the Essense dupe a try. For the elf liner in Brown, it was quite dark and easy to use. Though that’s my favourite kind of applicator, I also really enjoyed the Jesse’s Girl black liner. The reason I don’t plan to repurchase at this point is that the brands are readily available where I am and I have enough liner to last me for months (maybe years). The one product I would repurchase (if only it were a CF brand) would be the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation. This was serious perfection.

You might have seen that I recently decluttered to clean out some of my nail polish but I passed on about 99% of the product that I decluttered from my collection. Here are a few that I did use up. First, a staple in my nail world, the Quo Nail Polish Remover. I pick these up for about $3 (2 for $6) at Shoppers and run through them pretty quick. Also pictured is the Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat which I did like but like many other polishes, it became quite gloopy near the end. The final two here are nail wraps: one from Essie and one from Sally Hansen. Since these company’s are not cf, I will not be picking any more up.

I went through quite a few hair products this season including some amazing Dry Shampoo from COLAB. This is the COLAB Sheer Invisable shampoo in Rio (my favourite scent) and the COLAB Extreme Volume shampoo in Toykio. Dry shampoo and I are taking a break but this is a brand I will be pretty faithful to. The two foil packets in the front are the Drybar Sake Bomb nourishing shampoo and conditioner combo. I may be one of the few people that find “better quality” shampoos are just way too rich for my hair. It becomes so greasy and stringy within a day – sometimes, it doesn’t look like I have washed my hair at all after it dries. For that reason, these just didn’t work for me. I actually typically stay away from typical conditioners except for the Ion Anti-Frizz leave in conditioner here. I have had this for years. I love how it smells and feels. I have a few conditioning products to go through but hope to come back to this soon.

You may have seen my review of the uhaircare Native Mint shampoo and though I like it, I am not too likely to purchase it in the future. If I do happen upon it at Winners again through, I may scoop it up then. The final empty I have here is the KQC Thermal Shine heat protector shine spray. I love this stuff and already have another on the go. It makes my hair feel so healthy and soft without making it feel like there is additional product or anything greasy. I use it even on days I don’t use heat because it just feels so nice. It is available on nailpolishcanada.com for under $15.

We’ve come to an end! I realize it is just about time for a spring empties post (stay tuned! I promise, it won’t be quite so long) but I hope you enjoyed this review.

#MOTD: Pop of Purple ft. Drugstore brands

Hey all! I have done two drugstore brand tutorials in my day (Rimmel and L’Oreal – two of my faves) but today, we’re just talking just drugstore products and hopefully, you’ll get to see me use a few new things.

Primer: Rimmel London Stay Matte 003 all over the face.

Concealer: COVERGIRL Trublend Fix Stick in Light under the eyes to start. After foundation, I used the Rimmel London Match Perfection highlighter and concealer in Fair.

Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation in Porclin.

Powder: Rimmel London Stay Matte Translucent powder. Forever a staple.

Eyeshadow Primer: Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal in Inked in Pink all over the lid as a base.

Eye Shadow: Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette. Starting with the true taupe shade in the crease then to set the base I used the dusty rose shade in the crease and on the lid. For some additional sparkle, I blended the light baby pink all over the lid as well to finish he eye.

Eye Liner pencil: Almay Intense i color in Purple Amethyst. I don’t know how I didn’t have a purple liner before.

Liquid eye liner: Annabelle Liquid liner in Black Spark to create a little itty bitty baby wing.

Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga mascara on the lashes looking gorgeous, if I do say so myself.

Eye Brows: Quo brunette brow powder to fill in my brows and set with the L’Oreal Brow Stylist gel in clear.

Highlighter: NYX Mosaic highlighter in 01 on my cheekbones.

Blush: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Plum Wine, a totally gorgeous berry shade.

Bronzer: Rimmel London Natural Bronzer in Sunlight. Yes, I used bronzer in the usual spots: temple, under the cheekbones and jawline.

Lip liner: Annabelle Stay Sharp lip liner in Strike a Rose to lighten the lipstick a tad and help it stay put.

Lipstick: Marcelle Rouge Xpression in Fuchia Flare** to finally finish.

Let me know what you think! I plan to review a few of these goodies in the next few weeks so keep an eye out!

#MOTD: It’s Fall

This week, I took a look at some beautiful make up trends to keep an eye on this fall.  Now that the season is officially upon us, I can go wild with some bold and deep colours, new textures and beautiful warmth. I put together this  post totally inspired by Autumn trends I am looking forward to this year.

I wanted a semi-matte finish base to start so I took my current favourite combination of primer, concealer and foundation combo: the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, Maybelline Coverstick Corrector in Green, Covergirl TruBlend Fixstick in Light and the Benefit Hello Flawless foundation in Ivory. I wanted a more flawless finish so I went a little heavier on the concealer side of things. Under my eyes, I brightened as usual with the Rimmel Match Perfection 2 in 1 Concealer and Highlighter in Fair which I set with the Bare Minerals Concealer in Well Rested. Since the Smashbox Primer and Benefit Foundation give me a luminous shine, I set everything with the Rimmel Stay Matte powder to dull it down a bit and voila, I was left with a glowing matte finish.

I decided to be bold with the eyes and lips because Autumn is all about being bold. To make sure my shadows wouldn’t budge, I started with the Too Faced Shadow Insurance all over the lid. Next is a palette that I think is perfect for the season: The Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveller Couture palette. For this look, I took Soft Peach all over the lid, then slowly built up a warm crease using Morocco, Noir and Fudge. I tried to do a very soft cut crease look so I used a pencil brush to focused Noir on the outter corner and slightly into the crease. Once everything was blended out to my liking, I patted Metallic on the lid which is an old gold colour that is super pigmented.

Eyeliner is always a must have for fall and I blended these two on my bottom lash line: Urban Decay 24/7 eye liner in Zero and Annabelle Stay Sharp Eyeliner in Bronzey. Though I love these Annabelle Stay Sharp liners, I am not so happy with the Annabelle EyeInk 2 Mistake Proof liquid eyeliner. It was easy enough to apply and the corrector worked very well, but I found the eyeliner formula was just not working for me (as you will no doubt see in the closeup). Before adding the mascara, I created some bold brows using the Quo Brow Focus powder in Brunette and a small angled brush, then some Benefit Gimmie Brow to keep my brows in place.

Since I was being a little bolder than usual, I wanted my skin to look extra perfected so I used the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders to lightly highlight and contour with. I also used the Make Up For Ever HD Blush in 410 on my cheeks which I am sure you’re used to seeing by now since I have been trying to use it up. Now that all of the powder is down, I finished up the eyes with my #1 mascara: the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I will just let the picture speak for itself.

Plum lips are the way to go in Autumn so I picked out a fave: the Revlon Colourstay Moisture Stain in Parisian. That completes this bold but beautiful look that I am really love. What fall trends are you looking forward to this year?
