#MOTD: Something Old, Something New

And no, this isn’t another wedding post.

Inspired by Beauty With Emily Fox on YouTube, I took a look through my old favourites from the past few years that I have been blogging and put them to the test to see what I still liked and what was just a phase. Where does the ‘something new’ come in? I had to fill in the gaps with some of my current favourites from my collection. Enjoy!

Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer Original (January 2016)

This primer is still as lovely as ever. I wouldn’t say it is my number 1 primer as I do find that my skin can look a little dry and my pores are still a little bit visible, but I have kept it because I love how it feels on the skin.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation in 110 Porcelain (January 2016)

My favourite thing about this foundation is the colour match. Other than that, I wouldn’t say this is gives me either a matte or poreless finish and it doesn’t feel great on my skin. I no longer support the company as it isn’t cruelty-free but regardless, I am not in love with this product anymore.

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer (February/March 2015 and again in October 2015)

For inexpensive and full coverage, I don’t think you can beat this. It does separate a little and the packaging isn’t ideal, but I do like how this looks under the eyes.

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Glow (August 2015)

This was my wedding day blush so you know it is still my number 1. I love how this blush gives life to my skin with a bit of a glow without the oil slick. I prefer cream blushes and find that this one is one of the more pigmented with fantastic staying power.

elf HD Undereye Setting Powder and Tone Correcting Powder (CURRENT)

I am blown away that I haven’t raved about these two inexpensive, cruelty-free powders. I rarely will use anything else. They both set my make up well without oxidizing or drying out my skin. They are easy to use and apply, and keep my oily skin under control. I do need to touch up through the day (I use blotting papers to do so) but these look and feel so good.

Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighter (July 2015)

That glow though. I still love this highlighter. It has a gorgeous, healthy shine to it while being a good balance of natural and glamourous.

Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner in Universal Medium (pictured is Universal Taupe – January 2016)

This is my go-to and it is drugstore. I am constantly using these up and repurchasing them. If there is one item you try from this post, it should be this.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance (February/March 2015)

This is another product that I use every day and have multiple backups of. It is my favourite eye primer because of how smooth it feels on the lids and how beautifully pigment sticks to it.

March Jacobs Twinkle Pop in Honey Bunny (February/March 2015 and again in December 2015)

This isn’t quite an every day product for me, but when I need a pop of glossy, glittery shine, this is the only thing I reach for. I set this with a few shades in the ABH MR palette (next) here but the cream shadow still shines through. It is simply gorgeous.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette (Fall 2016)

Who doesn’t love this palette? It has so many warm tones, a good variety of colour and neutrals, and the formula is simply one of the best.

Annabelle Stay Sharp Metallic eyeliner in Bronzy (September 2015)

This entire range of Stay Sharp products from Annabelle are 100% worth checking out. I have loved everything I have tried. This particular shade is my favourite because it works so well with my eye colour, but they all stay put and are easy to apply.

Marcelle Double Precision Liquid Liner (CURRENT)

I forgot how much I am in love with this matte, drugstore liner. It is easy to apply and pigmented. I don’t know how I haven’t mentioned this one before either because it has been a favourite since highschool.

Buxom Lash Mascara (CURRENT)

This is a super dark, lengthening mascara that doesn’t disappoint. If you are not a fan of the Too Faced BTS mascara because it is clumpy, here is your not-so-clumpy dupe (to clarify, I do love them both).

Bite High Pigment Pencil in Madeira (May 2015)

This shade isn’t available but I am sure Bite has a similar shade in their permanent collection. Bite specializes in lip products so of course, they are amazing. The one and only issue I have is the wear time but honestly, they feel so lovely to apply that I don’t mind.

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Lip Gloss in D16 (January 2015)

This lip gloss line is no longer available but luckily, I have found a new favourite that is pretty similar and there is no surprise, it is from Bite. The Bite Lush Fruit Lip Gloss line is the same thick and glossy shine that lasts which is what I loved about the MUFE gloss.

I hope you enjoyed this blast from the past – I know I did! Let me know which ones you’ve tried.

#MOTD: Millions of Peaches

I’m here this week with a peachy look for Spring. This has to be one of my favourite make up trends so far. These peachy eye looks, palettes, lippies and blushes are gorgeous! They are light but have that pop of colour that I love.

This was one of the first times I have actually used my Too Faced Sweet Peach palette. I am a little disappointed by my lack of inspiration when I look at the shades. Otherwise, the pigmentation is lovely and they blend together like magic. I will need to play around with these shades a little more! Would you be interested in another peachy look? Let me know.

Five Fall Favourites 2016

We’re starting slow.
I’m here with some of my fall favourites after a long winded absence. I hope you didn’t miss me too much. While I’ve been gone, I got married, we bought a car, and I took the chance to organize my life a little bit. It was a stressful few months but happy none-the-less. Though I did slow down on buying and even wearing make up, skin care and nail polish, I was able to find some fantastic favourites for autumn.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette

Available at Sephora for $55 CDN.
This 14 shade palette of quality eyeshadows contains a beautiful array of warm shades with a few romantic shades sprinkled in. I have been obsessed with ABH eye shadows for some time now for their pigment, wear time and blend-ability. In fact, I wore them on my wedding day. If you haven’t already given them a try, I would recommend picking up a single or four (a single is only $16 CDN at Sephora) or take the plunge and get a coordinated palette of shadows. I seriously doubt you will regret it.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick in Drop Dead Red

Available at Sephora for $25 CDN.
I am very impressed by the longevity and strong pigment of these liquid lipsticks. I picked this shade up for autumn/winter since I didn’t have such a deep red in my collection and wanted something that would stay put on my lips. My only issue with this is it does transfer no matter how long I leave it to dry. It does become a beautiful matte on the lips and was not patchy in the least. I am sure I will pick up a few more of these to try during the Sephora sale (coming November).

Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection To Reflect Shimmer Palette in Hollywood Boulevard

No longer available
I received this in a make up swap a few months ago and have been loving it as a warm, golden highlight. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like it would work and would be too dark or colourful on me, but mixed, it is a lovely yellow gold highlight that is light enough for my pale skin. It’s huge, it’s inexpensive, and it’s just the right amount of highlight on the cheekbones. If you can get your hands on these highlighters, I would recommend picking one up.

Kaia Naturals The Takesumi Detox Bamboo Charcoal Deodorant in Cold Pressed Rose

Available at Kaia Naturals for $21
I will start off by saying this isn’t perfect. Does it withstand summer sweat? Not entirely. Is it inexpensive? No. However, the most noticable benefit to this deodorant so far is it is helping with the discolouration on my arm pits. The deodorant is also aluminum free, vegan and 99% natural. I have also been breakout free since using this deodorant which tends to be a theme amount natural deodorant. Though I wish it was less expensive, I am pretty pleased with it so far.

Lush Shampoo Bar in Jumping Juniper

Available at Lush for $10.95
While perusing the Lush store in my city, I came across the Shampoo Bars. These convenient little suckers have no packaging, making it a little more environmentally friendly, lather up extraordinarily well, and smell great. They seem to last quite a few washes which was my top concern when purchasing it. My hair always feel clean after using this and I can typically last three days oil-free.

Those are the 5 products I’ve been enjoying the most this autumn. What have your favourites been?

#MOTD: My Wedding Day

For the big day, I had to use the products that were near and dear to my heart so many of these are holy grail status make up items. It’s a great idea to use your die hard products on important days (such as a wedding) to ensure you have one less thing to worry about through the day. You know how everything wears, you know it wont cause problems, and you feel and look great.

Before the make up though, I did a spa-like skin care routine to make sure my face was perfectly even, plump and ready for make up. My tip: use a charcoal mask to remove some impurities the night before and a brightening, hydrating sheet mask the morning of.

I am so pleased with the end result. I felt beautiful and glowing on my big day. I loved having the sparkles and pop of colour on the eyes. What make up did you wear/will you wear on your wedding day?

#MOTD: Brozed beauty for pale skin

It’s summer and that means it’s time for even the palest of people to look a little more bronzed up. I am and never have been a big bronzer user but my opinion has totally changed with the addition of a few new products that are perfect for this season. Here is my bronzed up look for all of the pale people out there!

Foundation: I skipped out on a primer to get the full benefits and natural look of the Murad Oil Control Mattifier with SPF 15 plus the Derma E BB Creme with SPF 20 in light. This combination is you skin but better plus things out the BB cream which is slightly too dark on its own.

Concealer: I used the Essence Say No to Dark Circles concealer under my eyes. Yes, I have extremely dry skin under one of my eyes. It is annoying. Let’s ignore it.

Eye primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Powder: Elf Tone Correcting Powder in Cool to do a little bit of colour correcting since this BB cream is a touch dark for me still.

Bronzer: The star of the show is this Physicians Formula #Instaready Super BB Bronzer. Both super natural and just overly stunning.

Highlight: Wet n Wild Fergie Highlight in Hollywood Boulevard.

Blush: Summer means cream blush and I took a page from Nancy (aka Spiffykerms) book and used NYX Cream Blush in Glow.

Eyeshadow: I used the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Eye shadow palette. Starting with the taupe browbone shade in my crease then deepening it us with the gorgeous brown crease shade on the left. On my eye lid, I wanted something a little bronze so I went with the eyelid shade.

Eye liner: I used a thin layer of the Annabelle Stay Sharp eye liner in Bronzey in my waterline with some of my eyelid shade on top.

Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex.

Brows: For my brows, I used the Annabelle Browshow liner and highlighter on my brows and brow bone.

Lipstick: A combination of the Annabelle Stay Sharp lip liner in Java and the Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in Get The Look for that extra boost of colour.

This look is rather simple considering how luminous and perfected I felt! All of these products were totally pale-skin friendly and animal friendly (cruelty-free). I hope you enjoyed this look! Let me know what I should do next.

#MOTD: My First Video

As you may have guessed, this little tutorial here also comes with a video! I am not sure how often I will include a video, whether this is the style I will stick with, and so on, but I hope you at least enjoyed this one!

Primer: I used the Cover FX Calming Primer for the first time here.

Concealer: the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Perfecting Concealer. I used the yellow shade on my redness and the lightest pinky shade on my undereyes. Following that, I used some Hard Candy Glamoflauge in Ultra Light under my eyes to brighten. After some foundation, I added in a little more and blended it in fully.

Foundation: A recent discovery and favourite is the Gosh X-Ceptional Wear Foundation in Porcelain.

Powder: To set it all, I used the Essence All About Matt powder.

Brows: Quo Brow Focus in Brunette.

Eye shadow primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Eye shadow: I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveller palette. This was limited edition but many shades are still available. All over everything, I used Soft Peach. In the crease and outter corner, we have some Fudge. On the lid, I added Bellini for a little more shimmer and pigment. Going in with two of my favourite shades of the palette, I put Intense Gaze exactly where I put Bellini, then Pink Champagne on top. In the crease, I added Azure quite heavily and blended until I was happy. I had to touch up with Pink Champagne when I was done.

Eye liner: I added a bit of Annabelle eye liner in Espresso.

Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex.

Bronzer: Tarte The Sculpter in Park Ave Princess.

Blush: BH Cosmetics Blush Palette

Highlight: The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer.

Lipstick: Hourglass Liquid Lipstick in Canvas.

Please let me know what you think of my first ever video and this format for a tutorial. All of the products used were cruelty free, but not all of the brushes!

Pastel Lipsticks for Spring

Pastel coloured lipstick can go one of two ways: They are either way so light that you look a little bit like a corpse or you look extra tanned and bronzed like a goddess. Since I’ve recently discovered a new fave pastel pink, I thought I would share a few that I love that make me feel pretty awesome. Added bonus, they are cruelty-free!

From lightest to darkest, we have

Essense Lipstick in Get The Look which is a rather sheer but very cool toned pastel pink. This looks best over a darker lip liner as a highlighted pop of colour.

Cargo Cosmetics lipgloss in Anguilla which is the truest baby pastel pink of the group but it is a seriously beautiful colour for spring/summer.

Marcelle Rouge Xpression lipstick in French Rose** is one I talked about pretty recently. This is a slightly frosty blue toned pink that again looks good for a little pop of colour with a slightly more neutral lip liner.

Essence Liquid Lipstick in Colour Party is one of my newest favourites. This is a colour you can wear on its own that is still very light and bright. It isn’t matte – in fact none of these are – so you also get a lovely glossy look for Summer.

NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel is a bit more peachy and sheer, but again gives you a beautiful pinky gloss for this season.

Essense Lipstick in Wear Berries! is more of a pastel purple shade. Since it is quite sheer but dark, it’s a little more subtle then the others but still lovely.

This one is a bit of a stretch but I wanted to include it in here as another option. Too Faced Melted Fig is a very unique kind of colour. Though it is a deep purple colour, it is a similar concept as Essense Wear Berries. It is a nice wash of colour that mixes very well with any of the lighter shades I mentioned earlier.

Through there are no mattes to be found here, there are a few different finishes and types of lip products giving you a pretty good selection to choose from. Onto the lip swatches, but this time, by type.

The formulas, through different, are all pretty outstanding. Let me know what your favourite pastel coloured lipsticks are or perhaps your spring go-to shades. I would love to hear any suggestions!
